Nagaland in the process of drafting film policy

The Nagaland government is in the process of drafting the Nagaland film policy to set up the Nagaland state film development Society/board, said state information and public relations (IPR) director Tokishe Sema. The society or the board will comprise several members, including film lovers, makers and directors, he added.

Edible Oil- Oil Palm Business Summit at Guwahati

The National Mission on Edible Oil- Oil Palm Business Summit was held on 6 October at Guwahati.

Highlights:

The summit began under Union Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomars Chairmanship and showcased a film on oil palm plantation along with the watering of the oil palm plant.

The summit is part of PM Modis vision for holistic and balanced progress of the North East.

The Government decided to intervene with the promotion of

oil palm in the Northeastern states was to make Northeastern states into an oil hub of India.

Special packages and aid for the northeastern states will improve the socio-economic status of farmers and contribute to more EMPLOYMENT openings in the Northeastern states.

The Mission has launched with a total expenditure of Rs 11040 crore.

It will bring an additional area of about 6.5 lakh hectares under the Oil Palm plantation in the next 5 years.

Out of this, 3.28 lakh hectares will be from Northeastern states while 3.22 lakh hectares will be from the rest part of India.

Odisha to strengthen disaster management wing

The disaster fighting arm of the like the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and fire service personnel will

be equipped with high-tech facilities and get better training to handle disasters in a more effective way.

At the State Executive committee meeting on disaster preparedness, chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra directed officials to develop the capacity of Disaster Management personnel in handling urban flood considering the erratic rainfall pattern in recent years.

The report comes at a time when schools are preparing to reopen after a gap of 19 months for Classes I to VIII from November 1 and indicates that many may need a major facelift before they welcome students. Experts said the state must form multi-department teams to inspect schools and classrooms and make them safer for children.

Unesco released its State of the Education Report for India 2021: No Teachers, No Class after analysing data from Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE+) for 2018-19.

The report found that 4% or 2,631 of TNs total 59,152 schools had just one teacher. Among the southern states, (16%), Andhra Pradesh (14%) and Karnataka have more single-teacher schools and only Kerala (2%) has fewer such schools than Tamil Nadu.

The report also found that only 61% of TN schools have libraries.

IPC crimes decline for third year in Bengaluru, fourth in Karnataka

In a continuing trend of declining crimes under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Karnataka and Bengaluru reported a 11% and 27% dip in 2020, respectively.

Analysis of data from the latest crime statistics report by National Crime Records

Bureau (NCRB) and figures for four previous years before 2020 show while Karnataka has seen a drop in IPC crimes for the fourth consecutive year, such cases have reduced for the third straight year in Bengaluru.

The state recorded over 1 lakh IPC crimes in 2020 compared to about 1.2 lakh in 2019, registering a 11.5% dip. Bengaluru, which accounted for about 19%

of all IPC crimes in the state, reported 19,964 cases, which is 27% lower than the 27,251 cases reported in 2019.

In the past five years 2016 to 2020 the state has seen nearly 6.5 lakh IPC cases, of which 26% or 1.7 lakh were registered in Bengaluru (see graphic). Data shows there has been a consistent decline in IPC crimes, which cops attribute to enhanced policing and a general shift in crime patterns, with criminals indulging more in non-traditional offences.

A break-up of major IPC crimes for 2020 shows a 26.6% decline in

kidnapping, 8% in abduction for ransom, less than 1% in rape cases, nearly 19% in house break thefts and 32% in cheating cases.

The number of people who were robbed also declined by nearly 26%, but those murdered increased by 2%, while attempt to murder cases went up by 11%.

Take only 20% of water for drinking: T to KRMB

The government has urged the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to take only 20% of water drawn for the purpose of drinking water into account while considering water utilisation of the state.

The government said it was seeking allocation of 15 tmcft (with drawals of 75 tmcft) utilisation towards domestic water requirements for projected Population up to 2051. As per the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT-1) clause VII of final order, only 20% of drawals made towards drinking water should be counted as consumptive use. The Central Water Commission, in its latest reassessment of water

availability study in India, has considered the consumptive use of domestic water utilisation as 15%, engineer-in-chief (Irrigation) C Muralidhar said in a letter addressed to chairman of KRMB.

Good quality sanitary napkins will be provided to the female students by the at government institutions for free.

Ten sanitary napkins will be given each month to about 10 lakh adolescent girls studying from 7th-12th grades in government schools and intermediate colleges across the state at a financial expense of INR 32 crores.

A total of 120 napkins annually is allotted to each female student. Even during summer vacations, the students are provided with their share before they leave school.

IT firms, startups hope for time-bound implementation of govts new policy

The needs to implement the Goa Startup Policy 2021 in a time-bound manner with clear guidelines and clarity on the rollout of the incentives, said startups and entrepreneurs.

Stakeholders and beneficiaries of the policy incentives point out that while the department of Information and Technologys claims that startup scheme applications will be processed in 45 days, most applications under the earlier policy, which lapsed in September, were pending for 12-18 months.

Dhule first district in north Maharashtra to be free of mucormycosis

Dhule has become the first among five districts of north Maharashtra to be mucormycosis-free ever since the ailment was reported in the region in early May this year.

The data provided by the state Health department revealed that there are 51 active mucormycosis cases in north Maharashtra at present Nashik (23), followed by Nandurbar (14), Ahmednagar (13) and Jalgaon (1).

mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, created havoc during the initial period of the second Covid wave in the region after some Covid-19

patients or those who recovered from Covid were found infected with the disease. The symptoms of mucormycosis include headache, fever, pain under eyes, nasal or sinus congestion and partial loss of vision.
