Annual water level decline reported in about 58% wells in 22 districts, says CGWB report

The groundwater crisis continues to deepen in the agrarian state of Haryana with annual water level decline reported in about 58 percent wells covering all 22 districts of the state.

The annual analysis of water level showed groundwater level decline in 58 percent of wells monitored post monsoon (October month) from 2019-2020.

This covers 62 percent of the area covering all districts in the state, according to the latest report of the Central Ground Water Board.

The annual water level decline of 0-2m was recorded in 49 percent of wells and 46 percent of area in all districts of the state in one year while decline of 2-4m was recorded in 5 percent of wells and 8 percent of the state’s area.

The groundwater level decline of more than 4m was recorded in four percent of wells and eight percent of area of the state at isolated patches in Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Jind, Sirsa, Gurugram, Mewat, Jhajjar, Rewari, Panipat and Faridabad districts, the report stated.

As per the CGWB report, 330 wells monitored reported decline in water level between 0-2m, 31 wells from 2-4m and 25 wells more than 4m.

The rise in water level from 0-2m was observed in 238 wells, 2-4m in 31 wells and more than 4m in 14 wells in the state in post monsoon annual analysis.

The rise in groundwater level of more than 4 m was observed in only two percent of wells and two percent of area of the state at isolated patches in Panipat, Faridabad and Palwal districts.

The report further pointed out that the decadal analysis from January 2011-2021 also showed water level decline in 58 percent of wells which covers about 66 percent area of the state falling in 22 districts.

The decadal groundwater level decline of more than 4m was observed in 10 percent wells and 14 percent of the area of state covering parts of Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh, Rewari and Gurugram districts.

Punjab gets third DGP in 3 months

The Punjab Police on Saturday saw its third Director General with the appointing senior Indian Police Service Officer Viresh Kumar Bhawra to the post. The order came just before the announcement of the dates for the Assembly Elections in Punjab.

Bhawra, who was the DGP of Punjab Home Guards, replaced officiating DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya.

The Charanjit Singh Channi Government selected the 1987 batch officer Bhawra out of a panel of three officers shortlisted by the UPSC.

Call to scrap nod for border road projects

The Lahaul and Spiti District Administration has urged the state and Union Government to do away with the process of receiving approval under the Forest conservation Act (FCA) for construction of the border roads.

The approval under the FCA is pending with the Ministry of Environment and Forest for widening of the strategically important Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphu road in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti.

The Union Government has entrusted the task of widening the Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphu road to the Border Roads Organisation. The survey has been completed by the BRO for the purpose.

EC to bring disabled to polling booths in palanquins

In a humanitarian gesture the would send palanquins (Dolis) to transport the persons with disabilities to the polling stations in the upcoming assembly Elections. The chief electoral officer (CEO) of Uttarakhand Sowjanaya said that Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) such as ramp, Light, help desk, proper signage, drinking water and shed would be provided in all the polling booths.

She informed that an extensive drive to find new voters in the family registers ( Parivar registers) was undertaken and the Booth Level Officers (BLO) were provided this data of the prospective voters.

Releasing the integrated draftelectoralrollon Wednesday, the ChiefElectoralOfficer (CEO) of UttarakhandSowjanyasaid that 3,60,686 new voters were added in therolls. The state now has 81,43,922 voters.

UP wins first prize in National Water Awards

Uttar Pradesh added another feather to its cap by bagging the first prize in the Best State Category of the Union Ministry of Jal Shaktis National Water Awards 2020 on Friday.

This is the third edition of the award given for adopting a holistic approach towards Resources“>Water Resources management in India. Rajasthan and Nadu bagged the second and third prizes respectively in the Best State (Normal) Category.

A total of 57 awards were announced in 11 categories, including best states, district, panchayat and best industries.

In 2018, National Water Awards were instituted to recognise and encourage exemplary work and efforts made by states, districts, individuals and organisations in attaining the governments vision of a Jal Samridh Bharat across the country.

The award in the north zone district category this year was given to Muzaffarnagar of UP while Balua of Varanasi won the award for the Best Village PanchayatNorth Zone.

Work begins in State to set up Krishak Pathshalas & Birsa Gram

Under the state plan, for the current financial year 2021-22, to increase crop production and productivity in the Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture sector and to demonstrate advanced agricultural technology, the has started work on the plan to develop Krishak Pathshala and Birsa Village under Integrated Birsa Development Scheme in State agricultural fields.

The Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries will train the farmers in scientific methods on capacity development and perception through Krishak Patshala which will be operationalised across the State very soon.

Director Agriculture, Nesha Oraon informed that under the State plan, work has started for the current financial year 2021-22, to increase crop production and productivity in the agriculture sector and to demonstrate advanced agricultural technology, the State Government on the plan to develop Krishak Pathshala and Birsa Village under Integrated Birsa Development Scheme in state agricultural fields.

According to the plan, in the first phase of the model of Integrated Birsa Vikas Yojana, 17 farmers’ schools will be developed in different agricultural areas of the State. Then in the next three years, 100 Krishak Pathshalas will be developed in a phased manner. In each Krishak Pathshala, 3 to 5 Birsa villages will be covered under cluster approach.

In Krishak Pathshala, farmers of Birsa village will be trained in scientific manner about 50 -100 farmers per village capacity development and sustainable farming. Supply chain, custom hearing center and market linkage facility will be made available to the produced goods through Krishak Pathshala. All the schemes run by the Government will be converged. Cluster based mulching facility, deep Irrigation, bowl, road, delivery pipe, Submersible pump, carat and other storage facilities will be provided.

Chhattisgarh bags award for innovation in e-governance

Chhattisgarhhas bagged the golden award for e-Shramik Seva from the Union Administrative Reforms and public grievances department for innovation in the field of e-Governance.
The golden award has been given to the state labour department under the Universalizing Accessincluding e-Services category of National Award for E-Governance 2020-21. An amount of Rs two lakh has been given as award .

About 36 lakh workers have been registered under e-Shramik Seva by the labour department of Chhattisgarh. Gujarat forest department launches helpline for wildlife conservation

The state forest department has launched a state-wide helpline number to encourage public participation inwildlife conservation, and facilitate rescue of wild animals and action against wildlife-related crimes.

The department has an existing helpline exclusively for bird and stray animal rescue.

Earlier, people would call 1962 to receive information related to rescue Services. Now, it has been made a GIS-enabled service where a person can get all the numbers of forest department-operated rescue centres, NGOs, veterinary doctors and volunteers located in nearby areas.
