NESO demands complete removal of AFSPA, implementation of ILP in entire NEThe North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), the apex body of student outfits in the region, has demanded the complete removal of AFSPA and implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the entire Northeast.

“NESO opposes the implementation of the Amendment Act,” Bhattacharya said. He said the region has faced a “lot of atrocities” due to Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, with the latest being the killing of 13 daily wagers at Oting in Nagaland’s Mon district on December 4, 2021.


Midday mealhas been stopped in around 5,000 elementary schools of the state that comes under venture category, after the state government decided to delink these bulk of schools from government-aided category.Considering the service rendered by the venture schools and following inclusion of these in the UDISE (Unified District Information System for Education), the students of these schools had been receiving free textbooks and midday meals upto Class VIII.

It added that as per PM POSHAN (Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman) guidelines, children studying in classes from Bal Vatika (just before Class-I) to Class VIII in government, government-aided and NCLP (National Child Labour Project) schools only are covered under PM POSHAN.
The venture schools were set up by locals of various places from time to time and later got recognition from the to impart Education. However, the Services of the teachers were not regularised in these schools and the local residents mostly took care of the school Infrastructure needs.

Directorate of Odisha Parivar to be set up

In order to create a one-stop point of contact and support for Odias who live in other parts of the country, the Odisha Government has decided to set up a Directorate of Odisha Parivar.

The decision was taken at a State Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in virtual mode from Japan.

The Directorate of Odisha Parivar will be under the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture to have better connect with Pravasi Odias within the country and across the world. The directorate will engage with the diaspora in the Growth journey of Odisha by leveraging their knowledge, skills and global reach while also making efforts to resolve any issues they may be facing.

The directorate will enlist Odia associations in different parts of India and foreign countries. This will develop a closer relationship with the people of Odisha living in different States and abroad including Gen Next through partnerships at individual, institutional and civil Society levels on matters relating to promotion of Odia language, culture and heritage, tourism and Sports, handlooms and handicrafts.

The directorate will enlist organisations involved in furthering the cause of cultural heritage of Odisha. It will enlist the Jagannath temples located in different parts of India and other parts of the world.

It will promote the cultural heritage of Odisha, celebration of Odisha Divas, organising world Odia conferences at regular intervals in association with Odia scholars, creative writers living in different parts of the world. It will bring out selected Odia works in other and important languages of the world.

Tamil Nadu to set up seismic monitoring centre

TheTamil Nadugovernment will set up aseismic monitoring centrewith the support of the National Centre forSeismologyof the Union Government, given the seismic activities felt in the recent past in the state.
The government will introduce a new mobile application, TN-Alert, to issue alerts to the users on disasters, storage levels of waterbodies, and information on thunderstorm, lightning and rainfall, besides a technical unit equipped with experts from various fields at Rs 13 crore.

Will convey Bengaluru infrastructure concern to ministry: FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Stressing the need for better urban connectivity, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday assured citizens that she would convey their concerns on the issue to the urban development ministry in order to speed up work on keyinfrastructure projects.

Sitharaman took part in an interaction with resident welfare associations, chartered accountants and entrepreneurs at an event held by theKarnatakaunit ofBJP. Responding to citizens concerns over Bengalurus traffic woes, the minister said the Centre had built expressways between Bengaluru and Mysuru, funded the citys Metro projects, approved the RAILWAY Network and provided assistance in building flyovers.

Shops & restaurants can remain open 24×7 in Telangana

Catapulting Hyderabad into the league of country’s few metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, the has come out with fresh guidelines allowing shops, restaurants and other establishments to stay open 24×7 acrossTelangana.

The government has modified opening and closing hour rules to make the shift to 24X7 functioning of restaurants and other establishments.

The Telangana government, hereby, issues guidelines for granting exemption from section 7 (opening and closing hours) of theTelangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988, to all shops and establishments as defined in section 2(21) for operating 24×7 in the state.”
Hailing the government move, traders, restaurant owners and retailers in the city said this would help them to do business and cater to customers 24×7.

IIMV MoU with Rajasthan govt

Goa Universitys Konkani study centres in Kochi and Mangaluru

Propelling theKonkani languageto notability in states that speak the tongue,Goa Universityis setting up Konkani study centres in Karnataka and Kerala, said the universitys vice-chancellor, Harilal Menon. He was speaking at the launch of the first-ever English-to-Konkani dictionary on library sciences.

There are people who speak Konkani across Kerala and in Mangaluru, Karnataka has many writers in the language, Menon said.

GU has already signed an MoU with Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Mangaluru, while an MoU with Sukrtindra Oriental Research Institute, Kochi, is going to be inked in the coming two weeks.

Sahyadri Tiger Reserve goes up 10 spots to bag 27th rank

The assessment of (TRs) in the country, conducted in 2022, has given a Very Good grade to theSahyadriTiger Reserve (STR). This protected tiger reserve is spread over 1,165 sqkm and covers the Chandoli National Park and the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary.

The evaluation of tiger reserves across the country takes place every four years as per the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) standards. The Sahyadri Tiger Reserves ranking in a list of 51 such reserves has gone up from 37 to 27.

The campaign 50 Years Of Project Tiger was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mysore on April 9. As per the 2022 census, it was announced that 3,167 tigers have been recorded in India at present.
Since its inception in 2010, the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve has achieved Fair and Good grades in the same assessment in the years 2010, 2014 and 2018.

At least 20 tiger reserves from the country have received the Very Good grade, including the famous ones at Tadoba Andhari, Melghat, Pench, Kaziranga, Corbett, Sundarban, Panna, and Bandhavgarh TRs.
