Assam: Rs 1.5 lakh each for over 2,000 Bihu committees

Assamchief ministerHimanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially distributed the one-time financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh each to a total of 2,114 RongaliBihu committeesfrom across the state, an initiative launched last year by the cultural affairs department.
Last year, 1,265 committees received the one-time financial assistance. The initiative was started last year.

He stressed the need to make the upcoming generations realise the importance of being rooted to their cultural heritage and identity. He added that it is due to lack of proper knowledge about ethnic heritages that the younger generations are often seen indulging in fruitless debates and discussions on irrelevant topics on Social Media.

4 Mission Shakti cafs opened in JSpur

Four Mission Shakti cafes were opened in Jagatsinghpur district in different locations to be run by Women Self-Help Groups [SHG]. Collector Parul Patwari inaugurated the cafes on the occasion of Utkal Divas.

It is the first of its kind all women run caf opened in Jagatsinghpur district on the premises of Zilla Parishad, Raghunathpur, and Naugaon blocks including another one at Singharapur near Nuapola connecting Cuttack- Machhagaon road NH 55.

The important aspect of the Mission Shakti caf is it offers all traditional and contemporary foods and snack items as per the visitors’ taste, which makes it different from the public-run restaurants, informed members of Jyoti Mahasangha, Erasama block.

Chennai to host Asian Hockey Cship in August: Udayanidhi

International hockey will return to the city after a gap of 16 years with the mens Asian Championship, to be held here at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in the last week of August this year. The mens Asia Cup hockey championship in 2007 was the last international hockey event that happened in Chennai.

The dates for the event have not been finalised yet but itll tentatively be held in the last week of August. Representatives from Hockey India have inspected the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium and suggested a few things to change. The share of the state’s gender budget grew from 11.5% in 2018 to 20.9% in 2023, said Women and child development ministerVeena Georgeon Tuesday. She pointed out the government’s focus on addressing wages, safety, occupational Health and Insurance issues for women in various occupational groups.

Bengaluru No. 1 in office space leasing in Q1: CBRE

In the first quarter (Jan-Mar) of 2023, Bengaluru saw the highest absorption of officespaceamong all Indian cities, according to estimates by global real estate consulting firmCBRE.

Of the country-wide absorption of 12.6 million sqft of office space, Bengaluru accounted for 3.5 mn sqft. The overall absorption marks a 9% increase in lease of office space compared to the first three months of 2022, the report said. One of the key movers, CBRE said, is companies moving back to working from the office.

Bengaluru has long been the leader in office space leasing, mainly driven by the IT/ITeS sector. Major transactions in the latest quarter included the 458,000 sqft leased by Table Space, 350,000 leased by HDFC Bank, and 240,000 leased byZebra Technologies. Bengaluru was followed by New Delhi at 2.4 million sqft of absorption, Chennai at 2 mn sqft, Mumbai at 1.6 mn sqft, Hyderabad at 1.4 mn sqft, and Pune at 1.2 million sqft.

In terms of addition to the office space by real estate players, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Pune and Hyderabad led the supply, accounting for a cumulative share of nearly 82%. Nearly half of the newly completed developments during the current quarter were green-certified (LEED or IGBC), indicating a strong emphasis on sustainability, CBRE said.

Telangana ranks sixth in India on patent application filings

Telanganahas ranked sixth in terms of filing of patent applications in the country after Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Punjab for the year 2021-22. In terms of design, the state stood 13th and ninth in terms of trademark filings in the country, as per the latest annual IP report.

The report has been released by the office of the controller general of patents, designs, trademarks and Geographical Indications, which falls under the department for promotion of Industry & internal trade (DPIIT) of the Union ministry of commerce & industry.

While Tamil Nadu filed 5,206 patent applications in 2021-22, Maharashtra has filed 4,508 applications, Uttar Pradesh 3,613 applications, Karnataka 3,171 applications, Punjab 2,197 applications andTelanganafiled 1,724 applications.

Pointing out that Telangana has slipped from the list of top five states, Subhojit Saha, head oflegal& IPR, Resolute group of companies, said though the state has been doing phenomenally well in investments and innovations, there is a need to see how these can generate from IP from the state.

Andhra Pradesh Tourism Corporation plans to set up food kiosks at tourist spots

The AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) plans to set up food kiosks- Amrit Kiosks at tourist spots across the state to attract tourists. The kiosks will be set up by winter season.

The APTDC plans to establish 100 kiosks across the state in the first phase, providing EMPLOYMENT opportunities to the youth. It has already called for the tenders recently. These Amrit Kiosks would offer snacks, cold drinks and packaged food to tourists.

Tourism Development Corporation sources said that these kiosks are movable. The same kind of food would be available at any kiosk in the state with standardized food.

Sources said that the corporation plans to establish these kiosks with attractive designs and colours. These kiosks would tie up with the local event managers, bakeries, and others to improve the business. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy suggested the tourism department that measures should be taken to put AP tourism on top spot by providing better facilities.

Govts digital health innovation on STEMI to be in focus at G20

The Goa governments flagship ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) programme, which was introduced three years ago to reduce heart-related mortalities, will be showcased during meetings scheduled to be hosted by the state from this month. As many as 2,573 patients have benefited from thrombolysis and 10,874 have availed of critical electrocardiograms (ECG) free of cost under the programme that has garnered national appreciation for being a model of digital Health innovation.

STEMI is a serious heart attack that occurs when blood flow to a part of the heart is completely blocked for a prolonged period, resulting in extensive damage to a large part of the organ.

It can be prevented through thrombolysis, an intervention by which a major blood clot is dissolved quickly, helping to restart blood flow. Thrombolysis has the potential to avert a heart attack that could otherwise be deadly.

In a first, Indian Army launches Girls Sports Company at ASI

Young Women athletes of the country have got a shot in the arm. TheIndian Armyhas approved the constitution of theGirls Sports Company(GSC) to recruit young athletes.
It will be on the lines of the Boys Sports Company (BSC) which was started by the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in 2005 to scout, recruit and train young and talented athletes at its campus which was set up in 2001 in Pune.

The ASI has already started training women athletes and will soon begin recruiting young girls in four disciplines.

Prior to this, women athletes have trained at the army establishment only once, when the Indian womens boxing contingent trained at the ASI ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
