Punjab gives nod to shorter airport route from Chandigarh; will acquire 14 acres

The Punjab Government today gave in-principle approval to the construction of a shorter and alternative route to the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport from Chandigarh.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit and attended by Punjab Chief Secretary VK Janjua, UT Adviser Dharam Pal among other officers at the UT Secretariat.

The UT Administration has been deliberating on developing a shorter and alternative route to the airport, as the existing one is longer as residents have to travel 11.5 km to reach the airport via Junction 63.

The alternative route has been prepared after consultations with all stakeholders, including the Punjab Government, Ministry of DEFENCE, Air Force authorities, Chandigarh International Airport Ltd, Ministry of Railways.

Urban, rural areas to have waste mgmt plan: Ashish Butail

Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ashish Butail said the government was preparing a special plan on solid Waste Management to make urban and rural areas garbage free.

At an event organised by the Municipal Council for the distribution of approval letters to the beneficiaries under the PM Awas Yojana (Urban) here, he said the cities were expanding but due to lack of suitable disposal places, heaps of waste were getting accumulated, creating pollution.

Butail underlined the need to increase income Resources of the local urban bodies in meeting their expenses. He distributed approval letters to 30 beneficiaries under the PM Awas Yojana.

Drones to help Uttarakhand cops pick new parking spots

To ease traffic woes in the state, especially in plain districts and the ones in the Char Dham districts, theUttarakhandpolice plans to usedronesto identify spots to develop parking places and Police outposts.

Amit Sinha, ADG, police telecommunications, said, “Almost all 13 districts of the state have hilly terrain, so we decided to use drones.”

“Police will survey areas and look for spots that can be turned into parking facilities. Once the spots are identified, police will speak to other departments and take further action. The initiative will focus on three districts, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi, which host the Char Dham shrines.

Hemlata Diwakar from Agra, Kamini Rathore from Firozabad, Pramila Pandey from Kanpur, Sunita Dayal from Ghaziabad and Archana Verma from Shahjahanpur have got the distinction of becoming the first citizens.

Hemlata Diwakar defeated the BSP candidate with a margin of over 1.88 lakh votes while Kanpurs Pramila Pandey won the electoral battle with a margin of over 1.77 lakh votes.

Shahjahanpurs Archana and Firozabads Kamini Rathore won by 30,000 and 26000 votes respectively.

Govt to increase subsidy for MSMEs from 25 % to 40 %: CM

Chief Minister Hemant Soren today said that our government wants the MSME to be promoted in the state. Our government is currently giving a 25 per cent subsidy to entrepreneurs to promote industrial units, if Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce has any good plan for the betterment of the industry, then our government will work to increase the subsidy for MSME entrepreneurs from 35 to 40 per cent. This time, along with the entrepreneurs of the country, entrepreneurs from abroad have also got an opportunity to participate in the India International Mega Trade Fair. Such events are a better effort to increase the industry in the state.

Chhattisgarh-Odisha Mahanadi water dispute: Inspection of river basins begins to resolve long-standing conflict

In an effort to resolve long-standing disputes over Mahanadi river water-sharing between Chhattisgarh and Odisha, a three-member committee led by Supreme Court JusticeA M Khanwilkarhas arrived inRaipur.

The committee will begin its inspection from the origin of the river and continue downstream to the river basins in Odisha. The Mahanadi River is the lifeline of Chhattisgarh, with 78% of the state’s Population living in the Mahanadi basin.

The Odisha government has lodged a complaint with the Central government regarding the construction of six industrial barrages on the Mahanadi and the lack of water inflow from the Mahanadi river and other sources located in the state of Chhattisgarh during the non-monsoon period.

AIIMS signs an MoU with MP Pollution Control Board

Aiims Bhopal and MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to undertake collaborative research work on the Health hazards of environmental pollutants.

This marks the first occasion in the country where a regulatory body like MPPCB has joined hands with a medical institute to generateevidence on the long-term impact of environmental factors on human well-being.

To start with, researchers at AIIMS Bhopal will undertake a field-based pilot study on the potential health implications of airborne fly ash particulates in the Population of Singrauli district, which has one of the poorest air quality indices in the country.

Rise in heatwaves, fall in coldwaves in Gujarat: Report

A monograph titled ‘Heat and Cold waves in India: Process and Predictability’ published recently by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, and Ministry of Earth Sciences, indicated that it was not a one-off instance. The report analysing data since 1960 indicated that Gujarat had recorded a significant drop in cold waves and rise in heat waves.

According to the report, seven weather stations – Bhuj, Deesa, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Veraval, Surat, and Dwarka – recorded a significant drop in cold wave days (CWD) from 1970 to 2020. On the other hand, two stations – Bhuj and Rajkot – recorded significant rise in heat wave days (HWD), Deesa, Veraval and Surat logged rise, and Ahmedabad drop in HWD based on data from 1961 to 2020.

The criteria for heat wave and cold wave are at least 40 degrees celsius and 10 degrees celsius temperatures respectively, and deviation of up to 5 degrees for two consecutive days at more than one weather station.
In terms of frequency of heat waves, Rajkot and Deesa recorded a significant rise, whereas Bhuj recorded a rise.

State firm gets bids of 2.61 a unit for solar plants

In the competitive bidding for 1,000-MW solar power projects conducted byRajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd(RUVNL), the -owned company received tariffs of Rs 2.61 per unit. The rates were lower than the Rs 2.73 that theGujarat Urja Vikasgot for its 600-MW projects in the e-reverse auction process.

While solar power developers said RUVNL did well to pull off the auction without doing it throughSolar Corporation of India, there are challenges in getting evacuation approvals.

In fact, there were more than half-a-dozen proposals for evacuation approval that is pending withRajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd(RVPN) for a long time. Solar developers said the winners of the auction should not face evacuation issues.
