Out of 145 applicants this time, 12 startups were selected to receive incubation support in the areas of technology development, business model, and (IPR). Out of the 12, three were selected by a jury of Industry leaders as the winner and two runners up.


AHSEC to introduce Bodo as medium of instruction for HS Arts course from 2023-24

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) on Friday announced that Bodo as a medium of instruction will be introduced for HS Arts course from 2023-24. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu while informing about the development on Social Media stated that institutions willing to offer Bodo medium of instruction to students are required to intimate AHSEC immediately.

According to the notification, AHSEC has decided to implement the Bodo medium of instruction in addition to the existing medium of instruction initially in the Arts stream from the academic session 2023-24 in the institutions under AHSEC comprising the subjects- HISTORY, Geography, Education, Logic and Philosophy, Economics, Political Science, Environmental Education, Mathematics, Swadesh Adhyayan.

Odisha may get 2nd Vande Bharat

Odisha is likely to get a second Vande Bharat Express train soon, said Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw here on Thursday.

Addressing a gathering at the Puri RAILWAY station on the occasion of flagging off of Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express, the Minister said, A second Vande Bharat Express train in Odisha is likely to run on the Puri-Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Angul-Rourkela route.

He also said that there are plans to introduce Vande Metro service for the Puri-Bhubaneswar-Cuttack route.

After Vande Bharat, Vande Metro and Vande Sleeper trains would become operational.

Deadline extended for education policy panel to submit its report

TheTamil Nadustate government on Saturday extended by four months the deadline for the high-level committee headed by retired chief justiceD Murugesanto submit its report on the state Education policy.

The committee will submit its report by the end of September 2023, school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said in a statement.
The formed a 13-member panel in June last to frame a distinct state education policy keeping in mind the interests of education and future of the youth in the state. The government gave the panel one years time to submit its recommendations.

The state government opposes several key features of the National Education Policy 2020 including conducting common entrance tests for all UG courses, introduction of a three-language formula and conducting common exams for classes III, V and VIII. It also opposes introduction of a four-year degree and giving the option of multiple exits saying that it would encourage more dropouts and create two-types of graduates.

Govt offices in Ernakulam set to go garbage-free by May 15

Heads of various government departments and agencies in the district have given instructions to the officials to ensure that all the offices are garbage-free by May 15.

According to it, all the government departments and agencies should adopt a scientific waste treatment system and also try to reduce the waste generated in each office.

Suchitwa Mission should give proper instructions to each department and government agency on how to treat the waste. It should also advise on setting up biobins as well. Non-biodegradable waste should be handed over to Haritha Karma Sena on a weekly basis.

The heads of departments should see to it that eco-friendly objects are being used for official purposes as far as possible. They should also ensure that the offices under their jurisdiction follow green protocol.

Jagan takes crucial step to develop Machilipatnam port

Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the 5,156 crore worth Machilipatnam port works at the sea on Monday. The construction of the port, with an initial cargo capacity of 35 million tonnes per year, is scheduled to be completed in two years.

The port would help Machilipatnam to develop on par with other port cities like Mumbai and Chennai as it would be connected withthe nationalhighway 216, he said. He added Gudivada Machilipatnam RAILWAY line would increase the port accessibility and improve the connectivity, he said.

Machilipatnam would soon become the centre for trade, commerce and industrial Growth asTelanganaand Chhattisgarh also would make use of the port resulting in the growth of ancillary industries creating direct and indirect work for lakhs of people over a period of time, the chief minister said.

AP plans steps to ensure safe passage of elephants

The Andhra Pradesh Government is initiating several steps to ensure the safe passage of elephants that move in from Odisha, Karnataka and Naidu to AP districts on a regular basis. The aim of the government is to facilitate the co-existence of elephants and humans.

In compliance with the advice of the Project Elephant Steering Committee of the Wildlife Institute of India and also taking note of the observations of The Supreme Court, the AP forest authorities aim to develop an Elephant Corridor.

A plan is also to provide relief to farmers for the loss of crops and extend financial assistance in case of death of people due to elephant attacks. The government would also ensure casual EMPLOYMENT on an Outsourcing basis to one of the bereaved family members, giving them work like elephant trackers.

Forest authorities say there used to be just 20 elephants in AP in the 1980s their number has gone up to nearly 175 now. They are found mainly in Seshachalam Biosphere, Sri Venkateswara National Park, Rayala Elephant Reserve, Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary etc.

In a first, Goa University to offer master’s in Sanskrit

Goa Universitywill soon offer a master’s degree in , vice-chancellor Harilal Menon said. He said that any graduate will be able to pursue this MA, provided they studied Sanskrit in school and have basic knowledge of the language.

The programme will be offered by the university’s School of Sanskrit and Indic Knowledge Systems, and Menon said that plans are also afoot to introduce a postgraduate programme in ayurveda. GU has already begun the process to recruit faculty for the MA in Sanskrit, and added that Sanskrit and ayurveda are complementary fields.

Goa already has an All India Institute of Ayurveda, recently established at Dhargalim in Pernem, and the programmes in Sanskrit and ayurveda at GU are expected to help boost mutual research.

Nashik to get waste recycling plant soon

The Nashik (NMC) has given a work order to a private agency to set up and operate the construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling plant at Pathradi on the outskirts of the city.
The civic body has identified around seven acres at its existing compost plant atPathardiin the city to construct the C&D waste recycling plant.

The civic body will bear a part of the construction cost. NMC is supposed to receive grants of Rs7 crore from the government, including Rs3.5 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission and another Rs3.5 crore underthe nationalclean air programme. These will be diverted for plant construction, while the remaining cost will be borne by the private agency.

Haryana OKs excise policy with Rs 10,000 crore target

TheHaryanacabinet, in a meeting chaired by CM Manohar Lal Khattar, gave its nod to new excise policy for the financial year 2023-24 with a target to collect Rs 400 crore for Environment and animal welfare Gau Seva. There has also been a nominal increase in rates of excise duty on country liquor and IMFL.

As an environmentally friendly measure, it aims to discontinue the use of liquor PET bottles after February 29, 2024, and has reduced the number of liquor vends, as compared to last year

The government is now aiming to cross a benchmark of Rs 10,000 crore with the successful implementation of the excise policy-2022-23. In the last two years, the recovered 100% of the license fee at which retail vends were allotted.

The limit of maximum number of retail liquor vends in the state has been reduced from 2,600 to 2,500 in 2022-23 and from 2,500 to 2,400 in 2023-24.

In the current policy, the retail liquor vend zone size has also been decreased from four to two in a bid to allow more participants to apply for liquor shop licence through e-tender.
