Meghalaya set to get its first electric train

With the electrification of two key routes,Meghalayais set to get its first-ever electric train, theRailwayssaid in a statement.

The Northeast Frontier RAILWAY has achieved the milestone by commissioning a 22.823 kilometre track single-line stretch of Dudhnai-Mendipathar and 34.59 kilometre track between the Abhayapuri-Pancharatna double-line section on March 15. The Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) has carried out the electrification works in these sections.

In a statement, the Railways said at present, Mendipathar is the only railway station in Meghalaya which is in operation since 2014 after being inaugurated by Prime MinisterNarendra Modi.


Assam govt for ban on polygamy by state law

The BJP-ledAssamgovernment has decided to set up an expert committe to examine whether polygamy can be banned in the state by a legislation to provide a major push for empowering Women as it steps into its third year.

Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on theeveof completion of second year in office, on Tuesday said the prevalence of the practice of polygamy, both formal and informal, was found to be high during the crackdown on child marriages since January last.

Polygamy is generally prohibited in all religious communities in India, except the Muslim community. Practising polygamy is an offence punishable under Section 494 and 495 of the IPC, except for the Muslim community, where Section 2 of the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937 governs the law pertaining to marriage which allows it.

The Assam government has decided to form an expert committee to examine whether the is empowered to prohibit polygamy in the state. The committee will examine the provisions of the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Act, 1937 read with Article 25 of the Constitution of India, in relation to the directive principle of state policy for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

BeMC to install 2,500 LED lights of Rs 5.55 cr

In order to lighten the Brahmapur city, the Brahmapur Municipal (BeMC) has taken steps to install 2,500 LED lights in its areas. These lights will be provided in areas where lighting facilities are not available.

According to the BeMC sources, Rs 5.55 crore will be spent for the programme. A proposal in this regard was passed in the BeMC meeting held on May 12.

A total of 1,164 lights will be installed in the first phase. An amount of Rs 3.24 crore will be spent for installation of electric poles along with relevant accessories. Similarly, remaining 1,336 lights will be replaced in places where old lights are defunct for which Rs 2.34 crore will be utilised.

In total 18,500 street lights will be installed in all the 42 wards of BeMC. It is learnt that 45 percent of the expenditure will be borne from Odisha Urban Development Fund, whereas a matching grant of another 45 percent will be met from loan. Remaining 10 percent will be met from the BeMC’s own fund.

Synchronised elephant census to be conducted in three states

The synchronised elephant census 2023 will start from Wednesday acrossTamil Nadu,KeralaandKarnataka. Around 40 teams have been constituted in the Coimbatore forest division to carry out the three-day census.
As per the nationwide syncrhonised elephant census 2017, it was estimated that Nadu had 2,761 elephants.
The Karnataka forest department expressed plans to conduct a joint syncrhornised elephant census with Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu forest department then asked the Kerala forest department to join the census.

According to sources, the Tamil Nadu forest department has identified 708 blocks from 26 forest divisions in the state for the census. As many as 42 blocks from seven forest ranges in the Coimbatore forest division were identified. Each block would have a team consisting of a forest department staff, anti-poaching watchers and two representatives of NGOs or college students.

ASAP course to train drone pilots gets DGCA nod

ASAP Kerala, the ‘s Additional Skill Acquisition Programme, has received recognition from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to provide drone pilot training and certification.

This makes ASAP Kerala the first and only agency in Kerala to offer such training.

The approval comes after a rigorous process and will allow ASAP Kerala to offer a 96-hour executive programme in Small Category Drone Piloting Course that can be completed in 16 days, including a five-day DGCA licensing programme.

The course covers various aspects of drone technology, such as 3D mapping, UAV survey, UAV assembly and programming, and aerial cinematography.

Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Systems Pvt Ltd, based in Ernakulam, is the training partner for ASAP Kerala.

The Growth of drone technology is expected to create more than 80,000 jobs in the coming years, and the availability of DGCA-approved training institutes in Kerala will help in the skilling of the workforce.

State inflation dips below 7%, but still highest in country

‘s Consumer Price Index dipped below 8% in April for first time in two years, but its Inflation rate remains highest in the country at 6.4%. Though the drop was significant, experts believe lowering prices will help reduce inflation asper Reserve Bank of Indiaguidelines.

As per new economic parameters, inflation below 10% is referred to as a walking or moderate inflation, with the rate of increase in prices is in the intermediate range of 3 to less than 10%. Different types of inflation have different guidelines and parameters. Till recently, Telangana had an inflation rate in the range of 8-10%.

Along with Telangana, the only two states with an April inflation rate of more than 6% are Uttarakhand and Mizoram. Inflation in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh was around 5% akin toUttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana,Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. In April, the country’s inflation rate was encouraging at 4.7%, well within RBI’s acceptable limits.

CM Jagan lifts ban on ‘Dotted Lands’ in AP

The decades-old Dotted Lands issue was settled on Friday as Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy lifted the ban of land worth Rs.20,000 crore.

Taking the land out of the prohibited list has come as a massive relief for 97,471 farmers across the state. The CM made the announcement after he formally launched the patta distribution programme at Kavali in Nellore district.

The CM launched the programme of de-notifying the Dotted Lands from the prohibited list. This would benefit 97, 471 farmer families across the state.

Permanently ending the land litigations across the state, the government has also taken up resurvey of lands after 100 years, by implementing the YSR Jagananna Saswatha Bhu Hakku and Bhu Raksha, the CM said, adding that the government has provided 7, 92, 238 permanent title deeds to farmers in 2000 villages in the first phase.

After crunching rainfall figures from 1901 until 2018, scientists and experts observed a slight drop in the frequency of Light and moderate rainfall events.

But the rise in the frequency of extreme rainfall events in the state for over a century has been phenomenal. The days of heavy rain have increased by about 60%, and those of very heavy and exceptionally heavy rain have shot up to a disturbing 100%, as per the GSAPCC document.
The action plan was released last week and was prepared by Nabcons, a subsidiary of NABARD, under the guidance of the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB), with a host of adaptation strategies in various sectors.

Blockchain technology for e-registered property deals

The states property registration department is in the final stage of adopting theblockchaintechnology to prevent duplication of original online agreement documents.

The blockchain technology would store e-registration data, said an official of the registration department. The data can be shared with relevant stakeholders, including property buyers, government authorities and financial institutions involved in funding the purchase.

The unique number on online registered documents having no stamps and signatures would help identify them. If documents are submitted to banks, bankers can feed details for verification. If data doesnt match, it would mean the document had been tampered with.

Govt providing employment opportunities to Youth along with imparting skill development: Hry CM

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the prioritises providing EMPLOYMENT opportunities to the Youth along with imparting Skill development. Apart from recruiting employees on an Outsourcing basis in government departments through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam Limited (HKRNL), manpower will also be made available to the private sector as per their requirements, said Khattar while addressing the corporate during a Corporate Vaartha programme held at Gurugram. Notably, HKRNL had organised the corporate talk programme to provide employment opportunities to the youth of the state in the private sector.

The Chief Minister said that Haryana has opened Shri Vishwakarma Skill Development University in Dudhola, Palwal, apart from setting up Haryana State Skill Development Authority under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. He said that along with skill development, several initiatives were also taken in the direction of providing employment opportunities. About eight lakh youth of the state are registered on the HKRNL portal. The private sector can meet its manpower requirements through this portal.

Clusters would be formed in every block under the PADMA Yojana. Under this 14,000 units will be encouraged in the MSME sector and 3.5 lakh employment opportunities will be generated, said Khattar.

The Chief Minister said that today Haryana has become the first choice for investors across the world. Due to the policies of the present State Government and the hardworking residents of the state, today the state is at the forefront in terms of per capita income among the big states of the country.

He informed that through HKRNL, the data of registered youth in categories like skilled, unskilled and management etc. will be shared with the corporate sector. The data will be available according to the standards set by the Industry like Education, experience etc. There will be no interference from the government in the recruitment work. However, facilities like ESI, PF etc should be taken care of, he said.
