‘Use bamboo, adopt carbon-neutral life to fight climate change’

Experts suggested making extensive use of bamboo in the northeastern states to fight the impending threat ofclimate changebesides adopting a carbon-neutral lifestyle and Climate-resilient behaviour while addressing the first Northeastern Regional Sustainability dialogue at Tripura University.

The organising committee member of Global Sustainability Summit-23, Jayanta Choudhury, said the meet was hosted with the different stakeholders of northeastern states, including post-graduate students of different universities here as a pre-event brainstorming ahead of the global meet scheduled on June 14-17 in New Delhi.

“The NE has huge potential to contribute to the of our country, but it remains unexplored. With the support of the Indian Institute of Sustainable Development & Carbon Minus India, we could host the first dialogue at Tripura University, and the major points of discussion and highlights would be presented at the Global Summit where all the policymakers will join,” Choudhury said.


Uniform assessment for Assam schools soon

The AssamState School Standards Authority(SSSA) has set the ball rolling for uniform assessment of all schools in the state, irrespective of boards, barring central government-run ones.

A final touch is being given to the Bill to formally create the SSSA in the state and it is likely to be tabled in the assembly soon.

In Assam, an interim committee headed by Education adviser to ,Nani Gopal Mahanta, has been formed and matrix is being created for assessment of subject skills, modalities of the key stage assessments to be done in classes III, V and VIII under the lead of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

Defence industrial parks to come up at Varapatti, Sulur

Two industrial parks for aerospace and DEFENCE sectors, and a common manufacturing facility will be set up in the district, special secretary and project director ofTamil NaduIndustrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO).

The proposed parks will come up at Varapatti and Sulur, the official said while addressing industrialists and participants from colleges at a seminar titled Accelerating Defence and Aerospace in TN Defence Corridor, coordinated by Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation (KCIRI).

The Union Government has set a target of 1.25 lakh crore-worth of domestic manufacturing in the next three years.

Robotic surgery system to be established at RCC soon

The has given administrative sanction to establish a robotic surgery system at Regional Cancer Care Centre (RCC) at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The government has directed the department of Health and family welfare to ensure that the specification of equipment, instruments and related accessories procured in connection with the project are at par with global standards.

Procurement shall be done through global or international tendering, the order issued by the planning and economic affairs said. The robotic surgery system will also be established at Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery.

The estimated cost of the robotic surgery system with accessories and instruments is Rs 30 crore per unit, and the total cost for establishing it in both RCC and MCC will be Rs 60 crore.

The project will be executed under the Rebuild Kerala initiative. The proposal submitted by the department of health and family welfare shows that premier institutes like Aiims-New Delhi, TMH-Mumbai, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology- Bangalore, Adayar Cancer Centre- Chennai and GCRI- Ahmedabad have facilities for robotic surgery.

The Governor said Andhra Pradesh has seen tremendous Growth in the horticulture sector in the past few decades, adding that production levels have reached 312.34 lakh metric tonnes, up from 17.84 lakh hectares. The state was ranked second in terms of horticultural production, the Governor said.

Govt gets 3 bids for setting up model beach shacks

Three bidders have shown interest in setting up model beach shacks at overall the cost of Rs 4 crore inNorth and South Goa.

The contractors have to study the site conditions and quote the rates accordingly. No extra claims will be entertained due to the conditions prevailing at the site, approaches, storing and stacking facilities, etc.
To be built in the one-plus-one format, these shacks are expected to be an upgraded version of the current structures and will allow tourists to relax and enjoy their meals while being able to take in an unhindered view of the sea from the upper deck.

Once set up as part of a pilot project, the four model shacks will be leased out.

App to weed out illegal colonies in Hry

TheHaryanatown and country planning department and theHaryana Space Application Centre(Harsac) are working on a Software to check unauthorised constructions in controlled areas, a bid to weed out illegal colonies in the state.

The software will enable multi-layered monitoring, have features of geo-tagging and pin drop location of the point the alleged unauthorised colonies are coming up.

For the past three years, the is struggling to regularise or provide basic amenities to occupants or owners of dwelling units that have come up in unathorised colonies.

According to information, there are around 3,500 unauthorised colonies in the state. This includes 2,237 colonies existing under the areas of Urban Local Bodies, while the arae in the controlled area, one monitored and controlled by the town and country planning department.
