Farm mechanisation in Odisha triggers 31% fall in bullock population in 7 years

With increasing use of agricultural machinery especially tractors, demand for bullocks for agricultural purposes has gone down over the years. Official data shows the number of bullocks has decreased by 31 per cent in the last seven years in the state.

and animal Resources development (FARD) ministerRanendra Pratap Swaintold the assembly on Wednesday that requirement of bullocks has declined due to reduction in usage of the animals in ploughing and bullock carts.

A time-series analysis study on the eroding shorelines from 1973-2021 shows that erosion is dominant in nearly 39.12% of the entire coastal length inKerala. The eroding length is highest in theNorthernregion at 44.04 percent followed by 38.67 per cent in the central and 33.8 percent in the south.

The study by researchers at the department of Resources“>Water Resources engineering,NIT Karnatakaled by MMParvathyand officials of the state Irrigation department, points out that unlike pre-2000, the results indicate that the past two decades have undergone a drastic transformation, which can be attributed to anthropogenic interventions and global climatic changes.

Karnataka assembly passed 200 bills in 167 business days over 5 years: Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri

With due later this year, the curtains came down on Karnatakas 15th legislative assembly on Friday, with speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri revealing that the assembly had passed 200 bills in 167 days of sittings over five years from May 2018. This takes the number of bills passed to more than one per day on Average, although most were passed amid a din or without a debate. Yet, Kageri said Karnataka fared among the best in the country in terms of transitioning house business and passing legislations.

The lower house passed 61 bills in 2020 and 48 bills in 2021, the highest in these two years by any legislature in the country. The performance of theKarnataka legislative assemblyis regarded as the best in the country, Kageri said in his farewell address. This was possible because of the cooperation from members on both sides. However, while quantity has been substantive, quality remains debatable. For instance, 15 bills were passed in the 11-day budget session the last of this legislature even though attendance was extremely low. Even opposition leader Siddaramaiah attended the session for only three days. Among the bills passed were the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Bill, 2022 that envages job reservation for Kannadigas even in the private sector besides Money bills. In all, the house received 1,382 questions, of which 135 were answered in the house and 134 by the government. Of the 1,240 unstarred questions, 979 were answered.

Telangana GST collection growth rate in February among lowest

Telanganarecorded the second lowest Growth rate in terms ofGSTcollection in February at 8%. earned 4,424 crore GST revenue (4,113 crore in February 2022), whileHimachal Pradeshhad the lowest growth rate of 5% in the country.

According to the latest GST collection figures released by the finance department on Wednesday, other southern states fared better as their GST collection went up by at least 4% over and above that of Telangana’s. Kerala (12%),Andhra Pradesh(13%), Karnataka (18%) andTamil Nadu(19%) thus stole a march over Telangana in GST collection, sources said.

Though Telangana’s growth rate is low, overall GST collection for the year is on track, said officials. According to the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report (up to January), the state earned 34,729 crore or nearly 82% of the total budget (2022-23) estimates.

Telangana saw a decrease in revenue from key taxes beginning in March 2020 as a result of Covid-19. Following a decline in revenues in 2020-21, revenue recovery was observed in all of the major individual taxes that comprise the state’s own tax revenue (SOTR) in both 2021-22 and 2022-23, sales tax (VAT), state goods and Services tax (SGST), stamps and registration fees, motor vehicle tax and excise.

Around 1.38 lakh farmers are involved in aquaculture in 2.12 lakh hectares in AP. As many as 111 cold storages store 2.27 metric tonnes of aqua products. The government is now providing subsidised power to aqua farmers cultivating in areas of less than 10 acres falling under aqua zones, with about 26,000 power connections currently receiving the benefit.

9% rise in 2022 road accidents in Goa, 271 lives lost in 3,011 crashes

In a shocking revelation, it has been found that two-third of the people who died in road accidents in 2022 were on two-wheelers.

The state also witnessed a rise of almost 9% in road accidents during the year.
As per the Goa Police traffic cell data, 3,011 road accidents were reported in 2022, out of which 253 were fatal wherein 271 succumbed to injuries. A total number of 181 persons on two-wheelers died in the accidents while 51 pedestrians lost their lives.

In 2021, 2,849 accidents were reported, out of which 218 were fatal. Almost 226 persons lost their lives. A total number of 152 persons on two-wheelers died while 36 pedestrians lost their lives.

The highest number of accidents in North Goa were reported in the jurisdiction of Panaji police (211) followed by Mapusa (182) and Porvorim (157).

Maharashtra to invest Rs 50 crore on solar fencing to reduce man-animal conflict

In a major move to curb increasing man-animal conflict, the has decided to give impetus to solar fencing to farms by spending Rs 50 crore by March-end. The project is expected to benefit at least 33,000 beneficiaries inMaharashtras Protected Areas in the first phase.

The PCCF informed the scheme is a part of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Jan Van Yojana under which an individual beneficiary will have to bear 25% (Rs 5,000) cost and above of the solar fencing, and 75% (Rs 15,000) whichever is less shall be borne by the forest department.

The scheme will be implemented through the active participation of joint forest management committees (JFMCs) and eco-development committees (EDCs).

10 new govt hospitals likely in Hayana by year-end, each will have 30 beds

The Health department plans to set up 10 hospitals across the state to improve healthcare Services and ease patient load on district-level facilities. The hospitals, each with 30 beds, will be built by the end of this year.

According to health department officials, the facilities will be constructed byHSVPand will function under the supervision of community health centres in the area. The plots will be identified and construction will start soon, they said.

The objective is to fill critical gaps in health , surveillance, and health research in both urban and rural areas, so communities are equipped in managing pandemics or other public health crises, officials said.

Rs 100 crore siphoned from Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran secret account to Punjab builders

The accounts department of Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) opened and operated a secret bank account to siphon to the private builders and their associates in Punjabs Zirakpur andDera Bassi.

It came to Light on Wednesday when the HSVPs chief controller of finance wrote to Panchkula Police for investigation and registration of a case. The secret bank account is linked to Panchkulas estate office and the fraudulent transactions are worth more than Rs 100 crore, while the internal audit team has, so far, got to the details of transactions worth Rs 72 crore.
