According to reports, the shutdown was near total in most Naga-inhabited areas but had little impact in two of the 12 districts in Nagaland Mon and Zunheboto because of the call given by the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) to keep shops open.

In order to check trafficking of illicit drugs, it is felt necessary to check all vehicles entering into Assam from Mizoram. Such vehicles will be thoroughly checked by personnel of Assam Police at the point of entry at all Assam-Mizoram borders,” said the order.

The vehicles, it said, will be released only after the officer concerned is satisfied that no drugs were carried in them.

The Assam government said that within a span of two months, 912 cases have been registered and 1,560 persons arrested and huge quantities of illicit drugs confiscated.

TheTamil Nadugovernment on decided to provide 7.5% reservation for students of state government schools in professional courses, like engineering, agriculture, fisheries, veterinary, and law.

Since less number of government school students are getting admissions in professional courses, the DMK government soon after assuming charge, set up a commission under the chairmanship of retired judge D Murugesan on June 15 to assess and analyse the reasons and to recommend remedial measures to ensure due representation of government school students.

The government received a report from the commission recently. To implement the recommendation of the commission, it has been decided to introduce a bill in the upcoming session itself to provide 7.5% reservation to students of government schools in admission to professional courses like 7.5% quota for medical admission, said an official release.

Entering its 15th year, the Kerala Education Department’s KITE-Victers television channel is getting ready to launch its second channel soon.

Kerala and Technology for Education (KITE) CEO K. Anvar Sadath said Victers began alongside the EDUSAT group in 2005 when then President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated EDUSAT and it was on August 3, 2006, the Victers channel was launched and since then it has been providing yeomen service to the students studying under the state syllabus.

From 2019, it became a round the clock channel and in 2020 it was made available in the DTH segment too.

In July 2021, KITE started providing the offline version of its First Bell 2.0 Digital Classes for students in the Lakshadweep region who study according to the Kerala school syllabus.

And since the Covid-19 pandemic struck hard, the channel has now scheduled substantial time for programmes on Covid-preventive measures, which include telecast of awareness Videos related to Covid-19 prevention and a live phone-in programme titled ‘Athijeevanam’ (which means survival) in association with the Kerala Health Department.

As part of theCauvery Callingmovement, spearheaded bySadhguru, 3.5 crore saplings will be planted in the Cauvery basin districts of Karnataka andTamil Naduby 2022, with participation of over one lakh farmers. A village outreach programme was launched to cover 1,785 gram panchayats in 57 taluks to reach out to farmers in Cauvery basin districts of Karnataka within two months.

Cauvery Calling is the biggest initiative involving farmers in a big way and has seen enthusiastic participation from them so far. The new outreach programme will reach Karnataka farmers through 890 trained people who will create awareness on tree-based farming in the nine districts.

TheKrishnaRiver Management Board (KRMB) will hold a meeting withTelanganaandAndhra Pradesh(AP) in the second week of August, top sources said.

Official said the respective delegates will discuss water allocation for the current year 2021, detailed project reports for all Irrigation projects and objections being raised on the projects and hydel power generation by both the states.

The meeting assumes significance as theNational Green Tribunal(NGT) has recently directed the KRMB to inspect the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) project site independently, without seeking help from AP and submit a report on August 9. The government even offered to provide helicopter for the KRMB team to reach the site.

Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials start establishing digital libraries in every village across thestate. He wanted them to start the work from August 15, marking the 75 years of Independence.

The chief minister addressed the officials during the review on IT and digital libraries at his Tadepalli camp office on Tuesday. He told the officials to provide high speed Internet facility to every house keeping in view the work from Home concept followed by several companies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The chief minister said that the digital libraries in the villages should have material for students and youth to prepare for all competitive exams. He also told them to provide high speed internet in all village secretariats and the Rythu Bharosa Kendras.

The chief minister instructed the officials to provide three desktops,UPS, desktop barcode printer, scanner, laser printer, Software, anti-virus software, unlimited bandwidth internet along with minimum facilities in all the digital libraries. He told them to provide facilities including three desktop tables, system chairs, visitor chairs, tube lights, fans, iron racks, newspapers, magazines in the digital libraries. He also told them to complete the construction of data centers for data storage.

The State Government will be spending Rs 140 crore for providing infrastructure facilities and computer equipment in 4530 digital libraries in first phase.
