The has proposed new initiatives that focus on empowering the transgender community. The social welfare department has moved three proposals – pension for third gender community, Scholarship for school students coming from the community and one-time aid for coaching for competitive examinations.
According to sources, the social welfare department will provide a pension of Rs 350 per month to eligible persons that will be deposited directly in their bank account. It has so far identified around 3000 third genders and issued identity certificates to over 1000 persons. Hundreds of applications have been submitted within two weeks with Raipur district leading the list.
