The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is building the world’s longest bi-lane road tunnel, the “Sela Tunnel,” on the Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang (BCT) road as part of Project Vartak.
Highlights:
The Sela tunnel is being built on the Indo-China border at a height of 13,800 feet.
It is being built on the 317-kilometer BCT road.
The BCT route connects Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng, West Kameng, and Tawang districts to the rest of India.
It is being built to provide Tawang with all-weather connectivity.
The tunnel would also allow for more efficient movement of troops and weapons along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
