Ranchi has 70 waterbodies, down from 194 decades ago

Ranchi has of late been experiencing severe water shortage due to the widespread disappearance of water bodies. The district was once renowned for its reservoirs and community waterbodies, which supported the region’s agricultural economy. However, as a result of unchecked Urbanisation, several of these vital Resources have perished over time.
RMC sources said as per their survey two years ago, there were 194 ponds and reservoirs in the RMC area a few decades ago. Currently, there are around 70 waterbodies as many have disappeared or dried up over the past four decades, said an official.
