Punjab saw lowest export rise in region in 4 years

While exports from Punjab increased three times from US$ 1,830 million in 2018-19 to US$ 7,096 million in 2021-22, the state still logged the lowest increase in the region — comprising Punjab,HaryanaandHimachal Pradesh— in the last four years, as per a report by the SBI research team.

The report says that Haryanas exports saw a four-fold rise from US$ 3,750 million to US$ 15,550 million and HPs exports went up five times from US$ 395 million to US$ 2,147 million.

The report further emphasises that following the introduction of one district-one product -district export hub (ODOP-DEH) initiative in 2020, exports have increased more than thrice in 16 states, including Punjab, Haryana and HP. The Services identified for Export Promotion under ODOP-DEH include tourism and information technology in Punjab and tourism in Haryana as well as Himachal Pradesh. Under the ODOP-DEH initiative, products and services with export potential have been identified in 733 districts across the country. These include agricultural and toy clusters as well as geographical indication(GI) products. GI items identified for the hill state ofHimachal Pradesh are Chamba Rumal,Kangratea, Kangra paintings, Kinnauri shawl, Kullu shawl, Himachali chulli oil.
