Punjab Assembly Passed Resolution Opposing Farm Laws

On November 11, 2021, the Punjab Assembly passed a resolution against the Centre’s three problematic farm laws.

Highlights:

This resolution was passed after it was claimed that firm laws had intruded into the realm of the state government.

This is Vidhan Sabha’s second resolution opposing three agricultural laws. In October of 2020, the first resolution was passed.

State Agriculture Minister Randeep Singh Nabha introduced a new resolution.

Resolution

According to the resolution, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha strongly opposes and condemns the Union government’s initiatives. Its goal was to dismantle regulated mandis and replace them with unregulated mandis that were more trader-friendly.

The resolution expressed concern about unfair concessions given to traders and businesses that allowed them to purchase goods from uncontrolled markets without having to pay market fees, rural development fees, and other fees.
