Govt urged to list biodiversity heritage sites in Telangana

The was on Tuesday urged to list potential Biodiversity heritage sites if it wanted its biodiversity strategy to succeed.

Addressing a workshop organised by theTelangana State Biodiversity

Board(TSBB),J Austin Mohan, secretary ofNational Biodiversity Authority, asked the state to create a mechanism to demarcate environmentally sensitive areas as they prepare the State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SBSAP).

The event was organised in a bid to ensure that various aspects

of Biodiversity conservation were considered in Telanganas SBSAP. As of date, only nine states have their own SBSAP in the country.

Andhra Pradesh’s own tax revenues go up by 100% since bifurcation

After recovering from the Covid-19 shocker, the state has improved itstaxrevenues in the last fiscal. As per the latest report released by theRBI, the state reported a healthy Growth rate of over 50-60 per cent in both state’s own tax revenues and non-tax revenues.

Interestingly, the state’s own tax revenues soared by nearly 100 per cent since the bifurcation of the state. The state own tax revenues stood at 42,168 crore in the first year of the bifurcation 2014-15. However, the tax revenues witnessed a drop by next year as the systems were not completely settled in the new state.

The revenues dipped to 39,907 crore in 2015-16. However, the tax revenue started picking up from 2016-17 when state pooled up 44,181 crore. However, these revenues were not found sufficient to handle the expenditure of various welfare schemes and proposed capital city projects.

Though the state’s own tax revenues moved upward in the consecutive years, they were never on the expected path. The tax revenues which were around 52,000 crore in 2017-18, reported just around 10 per cent growth rate by 2018-19. The state mopped up

around 58,677 crore in 2018-19 in the penultimate year of TDP regime.

The state had pooled up around 57,601 crore in 2019-20 and 57,359 crore in 2020-21. “The state witnessed a slight fall in the tax revenues in two successive years only due to the Covid-19.

No Maharashtra village will merge with any other state, says CM Eknath Shinde

Chief ministerEknath Shindesaid that no village of Maharashtra will be allowed to merge with any other state.

Shinde’s statement comes against the backdrop of his Karnataka counterpart Basavraj Bommai’s comment.

Bommai had said that his government is actively considering the resolution of the Jath taluka villages to merge with Karnataka, as the Maharashtra government had allegedly failed to address the water and Irrigation problems there.

The resolution adopted by those villages was way back in 2012 when they faced water problems. However, since then, schemes have been planned in the Jath taluka villages, and some

of them have been already been implemented. Others will be implemented in due course of time.

Haryana to maintain digital record of every inch of land, says CM Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday said that digital records of every inch of land in the state will be maintained to have real time data about the number of ponds, roads or .

Chairing a meeting with the officers concerned associated with this project, Khattar directed the Survey of India and the Revenue Department to complete the large scale mapping project for this work at the earliest. The department concerned should complete the technical works related to the large scale mapping project in each village sequentially so that no work remains pending in any village, Khattar added.

The CM directed the officers that complete mapping should be done outside the villages as well while executing large

scale mapping. This should also include houses and other infrastructural constructions built in the fields outside the village, he said.

He further directed the officers of Survey of India to complete this large scale mapping work at the earliest by increasing the workforce of the employees. During the meeting, the team of Revenue and Survey of India apprised the CM that the work of large scale mapping has also been completed in eight urban areas of Jind, Karnal and Sonipat districts.

With this, each property in these areas can

now be identified. In this, information about the area of the property, its location on the map and details of the property owner can also be easily obtained. The Chief Minister also congratulated the officials on the completion of this work.

STUBBLE BURNING: Punjab, Haryanas 12 districts see over 84% reduction

No less than 12 districts of Punjab and Haryana the biggest contributors to the food basket of India covering three lakh acres of farmland of 50,000 farmers in 300 villages has resulted in over 84 per cent reduction in stubble burning this season. Thanks to the Crop Residue Management (CRM) project a community-driven initiative of CII Foundation launched

initially in 19 villages in 2018, covering 16,000 acres of farmland in Punjab under its Cleaner Air, Better Life initiative.

Under the project, the farmers are advised and supported to adopt the Environment-friendly alternatives through interventions focused on creating awareness about the hazards of stubble burning, offering them viable alternatives, and supporting them in adopting those viable alternatives, said the spokesperson for the Confederation of Indian (CII).

In 2021, the project covered 226 villages and two lakh acres and resulted in 84 per cent reduction in stubble burning in the intervened farmlands.

Shimla turnout 1.4% less than in 2017

Cabinet approves proposal to fix life imprisonment period to 14 years, passes supplementary budget to be tabled in Assembly session

The State cabinet granted its approval to various proposals in the meeting presided over by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. In one of the major decisions taken in the meeting, the cabinet approved the proposal to fix the term for life imprisonment to 14 years. The incarceration period for life imprisonment in the State at present is 14 to 16 years for Women and 16 to 18 years for men. A total of 18 points were taken up in the agenda of the cabinet meeting. In another decision, the cabinet granted its approval to the supplementary budget of Rs 4,867 crore to be tabled in the coming Vidhan Sabha sessionfor this year.

Among the other decisions taken in the cabinet meeting, the stamp duty on pine resin collection was reduced from five per cent to two per cent. The cabinet also gave its nod to construction of green building at the old Roadways workshop in the provisional State capital under the Dehradun Smart City project. Further, the cabinet also approved the proposal for transferring the land of ISBT and leased Roadways workshop land to the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation to enable the corporation to secure a loan. The cabinet also gave its assent to the proposal for reorganisation of the Peyjal Nigams organisational structure. The reimbursement under Right To Education for students in private schools will be raised from Rs 1,393 to Rs

1,850. The cabinet further granted its approval to the rehabilitation policy for the Song river dam project.
