GST collections in Goa drop by 14%

While the country’s GST collections notched up an 11% increase in November, the GST revenue from Goa showed a 14% drop. As against the Rs 518 crore earned in November 2021, tax officials recorded a revenue of Rs 447 crore in the last month.

GST officials and the expects stronger GST collections in December which is the peak tourism season, and since international charters have

resumed arrivals in Goa.

Last December, despite the lack of international tourists, Goa still brought in Rs 592 crore as GST revenue, with the resurgence driven by revenge tourism by domestic travellers and uptick in manufacturing.

Vehicles crossing the airport road daily have shot up from 1,000 to 20,000 in five years, according to a study by theministry of road, transport and highways highlighting the congestion on one of the busiest stretches in the district.

Himachal Pradesh Governor launches telemedicine, meditation schemes for prisoners

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar launched seven new schemes for inmates initiated by the Prisons and Correctional Services Department at the Model Central Prison, Kanda.

The schemes launched today include meditation programme, telemedicine project, financial Literacy programme, Waste Management, free online coaching and audio library. The occasion was also marked by release of a poetry collection Parwaz.

The Governor also launched a financial literacy programme for prisoners in collaboration with the Reserve Bank Of India. Free online coaching for children of prisoners with the help of Smile Foundation was also launched. An audio library was also started for the prisoners, who could not read books due to paucity of time.

Backward areas to be focused in upcoming budget

Government of Jharkhand has started preparing the budget estimate for the next financial year 2023-24. Along with this, the revised estimate for 2022-23 is also being prepared. Finance Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh has also written a letter to the departments in this regard and asked them to prepare budget estimates.

Referring to the economic survey of the financial year 2021-22 published by the Planning cum Finance Department Singh said that there is a need to identify such areas by the departments which are still backward in terms of development. He said that while preparing the budget, the departments are expected to prepare relevant plans for the development of such backward areas and prepare a proper budget for those plans. The budget estimate will be on the basis of sanctioned post and working force.

Singh has clarified that in the last financial years, the fiscal space of the state has been consolidated due to the circumstances caused by COVID-19. The State is now recovering from the effects of the pandemic, but Resources are still limited. In such a situation keeping in view the limited resources, the budget for the financial year 2023-24 should be prepared, he added.

From the financial year 2017-18, the budget in Jharkhand is being prepared by dividing it into four categories which is establishment receipts, establishment expenditure.

In the scheme under Central assistance, the schemes running in the current financial year under the Central Sector Scheme, Centrally Sponsored Scheme and State Scheme and the new scheme will focus on income-expenditure in revenue receipt. Transport, land revenue, excise tax etc. Royalty, dividends earned from public undertakings, interest on government borrowings and income of departments from other sources will be included.

Bihar to be self-dependent in production of seeds: Minister Kumar Sarvajeet

State agricultureminister Kumar Sarvajeet, who inaugurated a two-day Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture mechanisation fair, announced that a centre of excellence for land conservation would be made in the district with an expenditure of Rs 40 crore.

He added Bihar would be made self-dependent inproduction of seeds. The Services of kisan salahkars will be regularized. Earlier, 9,000 posts were proposed to be filled in theagriculture department, and the number has now been increased to 15,000, the minister said.

Madhya Pradesh favourite destination in country due to ease of film shooting

Ease of shooting and support fromMadhya Pradeshtourism has made the state a preferred choice for film shooting in the country. Directors and producers felt it at an interactive session organized by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board during the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The fest was organized from November 20 to 28.

A discussion was held to install the equipment used in filming in the state. Session also discussed how film can be done by private Investment for the development of the film Industry in the state and its possibilities. Principal Secretary Shukla said that reserved land is available in the state to develop film infrastructure.

Meghalaya scraps gaming Act, no casino to come up

Amid stiff opposition from religious and pressure groups, NGOs, Dorbar Shnongs (village councils), oppositionTrinamool Congressand several sections of the Society to the proposal to set up casinos in the state, the government on Thursday announced that it would altogether scrap the controversialMeghalayaRegulation of Gaming Act, 2021.

The decision of the National Peoples Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in this regard was announced by cabinet minister James PangsangKongkal Sangma.

With the aim of boosting tourism, revenue generation and EMPLOYMENT for the people of our state, the department of introduced the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021, under my guidance. This Act would legalise and regulate gaming in Meghalaya. Till that extent, introducing casinos meant for tourists only was considered as well.

Assam removes AFSPA from 1 more district

TheAssamgovernment has withdrawn the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act from one more district, West Karbi Anglong, but retained it in eight other districts bordering Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and one sub-division bordering Manipur for six more months from October 1.

The had withdrawn the Act from 23 districts and one sub-division five months back from April 1.

The eight districts where AFSPA will continue to be in force are Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao and one sub-division, Lakhipur, of Cachar district of the state.

AFSPA was removed from some areas of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh and now under Amit Shah, more recently, the act was completely removed from 23 districts of Assam, and

CM calls for a disaster-resilient Odisha

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said disaster and pandemic management is being introduced in the educational curricula for students from Standard-IV to

graduation level with a view to preparing Disaster Management Yodhas in every village and household.

Odishas geographic location made it prone to natural disasters. Nearly 10,000 people died in the Super Cyclone in 1999. Then, the State did not have safe shelters. During these years, 815 multi-purpose cyclone and flood shelters have been constructed whiled 55 new shelters are under construction out of the Chief Ministers Relief Fund, Patnaik said.

For better impact-based forecasting, the Government would set up a Telemetric Rain Gauge in every gram panchayat, Automatic Weather Stations at block headquarters and sensors in river systems. These steps would help get precise real time information for more effective management of disasters.
