Himachal to frame policy to find alternatives to plastic: CM

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said a policy would be framed to find alternatives to plastic within a year and industries would also be encouraged to seek substitutes for plastic.

Presiding over a state-level function on the World Environment Day, Sukhu said that gradually thereafter, the would enforce a complete ban on use of plastic.Emphasising on utilisation of plastic waste in road construction, he also called for incorporating culture and environment-oriented courses in the educational curriculum to promote environmental awareness amongst children.

The chief minister said that his dedication towards shaping a greener future for Himachal Pradesh was

visible in the first green budget which emphasised on addressing environmental issues.Funds have been allocated for RENEWABLE ENERGY initiatives besides focusing on combating single-use plastic, and the government’s vehicles will be gradually replaced with electric vehicles in the next three years, he added.

Himachal Pradesh is taking the lead in establishing green corridors thereby becoming the first state in the country to do so and Infrastructure development is underway for this purpose, he said.At the event, Sukhu was presented with a jacket made of recycled plastic waste as a symbol for promoting environmental awareness.He also inaugurated an exhibition of various self-help groups and other organizations

Edu minister launches Samarth portal for college admissions

The students aspiring to take admissions in all the government and aided colleges of Uttarakhand and State universities can now use an integrated admission platform to get admitted in the desired course and institution. The higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat launched the integrated Samarth portal at the State secretariat

on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that the students would now not have to move from place to place for submitting admission forms. He said that the students registering themselves in the portal can apply in ten colleges of his/ her choice. The admission would be given in the college and course of the choice of the student on the basis of merit. Apart from being convenient the portal would also save the of the students. The minister said that the launching of the Samarth portal is a major step in the direction of fulfilling the objective of one state, one entrance, one examination and one result of the State Government.

The minister added that the one degree college in every block of the State would be opened. He claimed that in Uttarakhand about 46 per cent students clearing class XII examination take admission in higher education institutes which is highest in the country. He said that the students in State can avail the benefit of e- granthalaya (digital library) on click of a mouse and can have access to more than 20 lakh books.

DDUGKY crucial in self-employment generation in Pakur: Alamgir

The contribution of Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY) is very important in moving Pakur district towards self-EMPLOYMENT, said Rural Development Minister, Alamgir Alam while inaugurating Rising Pakur programme on Tuesday in Pakur.

Under the DDUGKY, run by the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS), a workshop was organized on Tuesday in the presence of Alam in Pakur Deputy Commissioner (DC), Varun Ranjan. During this, Alam and Ranjan formally inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Assets were distributed at the end of the program, under which movement letters were given to five participants of DDUGKY kits to Job Resource Person, citation to JRP and BPM for doing better work in the last financial year, Birsa Irrigation Well Scheme and Distribution of acceptance letters to the beneficiaries of Birsa Harit Gram Yojana and selection letters to Anganwadi workers and Sahiyas. Simultaneously, 33 unemployed youths and Women were sent to Ranchi and Hazaribagh for training.

Govt asks pvt labs to share data on diseases

State healthdepartment instructed all the private laboratories functioning inBiharto share the data related to patients various diseases. The motive is to identify the places from where the diseases, especially communicable ones, are emerging and to find ways to stop them and also provide government benefits to the patients undergoing tests at private centres.

Dr Kumar said they were keeping a tab on some 33 infectious diseases and Stress was given on collection of their data, so that their spread could be checked. He said while some of the private laboratories have started sharing their data, a few were still not following the process.
Nearly three weeks back, a workshop was organised by the state Health Society and a central team in the state capital in which stress was given on proper surveillance of communicable diseases and to expand the integrated disease surveillance programme (IDSP) and integrated health information platform (IHFP)

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said the Congress government is fulfilling Mahatma Gandhis dream of Ram Rajya through the Suraji Gaon Yojana in villages.

Madhya Pradesh leading state in ensuring clean, safe water availability: Centre

Availability of clean water in sufficient quantity is a key component of Jal Jeevan Mission. Swachh Jal Se Suraksha (SJSS) campaign was launched by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti for the availability of safe and clean water. Madhya Pradesh has been included in the leading state in the report of the campaign.

Congratulating for this achievement, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Madhya Pradesh government is working pacingly on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolution to provide pure water to every household. The achievement of Swachh Jal Se Suraksha campaign is another strong example of the public-participation model of development of Madhya Pradesh. CM Chouhan said that the government and citizens are moving ahead on the path of progress shoulder to shoulder in Madhya Pradesh.

Minister of State for Public Health Engineering Brijendra Singh Yadav has congratulated the officers and employees of the department, citizens and all the Women who ensured their effective participation by getting testing training on this achievement.

The water quality monitoring and inspection activities of the States/UTs for the period from October 2, 2022 to March 31, 2023 were evaluated in a nationwide campaign by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. A report has been issued after assessing the performance of the States/ Union Territories in the campaign.

The campaign aims at widespread public participation at village, district and state level for water quality testing and creating awareness about water quality. The campaign includes testing of PWS sources in all villages for chemical parameters and bacteriological parameters (post monsoon), household water quality testing in villages, water quality testing in schools and anganwadi centres, remedial work done for contaminated samples, training of women to conduct water quality testing using FTK/H2S kit

at village level etc.

Water quality testing was done in 51 thousand 129 (99.44 percent) villages for chemical parameters and 50 thousand 932 (99.06 percent) villages for bacteriological parameters (post monsoon) in Madhya Pradesh during the campaign. A total of 94 thousand 294 (95.2 percent) drinking water samples were tested in schools and 58 thousand 464 (95.62 percent) in anganwadi centres. Women in 42 thousand 595 villages were trained to conduct water quality testing using Field Testing Kits (FTK). Also, out of 11 thousand 606 contaminated samples reported, remedial action has been taken for 11 thousand 505 (99.13 percent).

Solar installations up 85% in Gujarat

Gujarat, the state that led the way in solar power adoption in India, has secured the third position in terms of cumulative large-scalesolar installationsin the country.

Notably, Gujarat experienced an impressive 85% increase in such installations during the first quarter of 2023, while solar installations across India declined by 30% during

the same period, according to the India Solar Market Update 2023 report by Mercom India.

Between January and March 2023, Gujarat witnessed 261 megawatts (MW) of solar installations, compared to 141MW in the previous quarter. Since Q1 2022, Gujarat has consistently ranked as the third-highest state for large-scale solar capacity addition, with an impressive quarter-over-quarter increase of nearly 85% in Q1 2023.

Gujarat has one of the finest policies to enable quick rooftop installation. Having pioneered solar adoption, the government here has rolled out a policy that not just incentivises people for large-scale as well as rooftop installations but also ensures expedited execution. Moreover, several solar park projects and large-scale installations are already in pipeline by the government.

On the

other hand, pan-India solar installations declined due to commissioning deadlines for several large-scale projects being postponed to the following year. Out of the total 1.9GW of solar installations in India during the January to March 2023 quarter, Gujarat accounted for 19% of new installations, trailing behind Karnataka (21%) andRajasthan(42%).
Gujarat’s position improved to third place in the January to March 2023 period, surpassingAndhra Pradeshin Q1 2022. Priyadarshini Sanjay said, Rajasthan’s solar irradiation and the largest solar park in Bhadla have made it the most preferred state, while Karnataka benefits from the Pavagada Solar Park, which contributes to its large-scale installations.

Residents of as many as 11 towns in Rajasthan consume harmful water. A report prepared by the state laboratory and referral institute of the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) revealed this shocking fact.The report Status Report of Drinking Water Quality in Urban Towns of Rajasthan has categorized the 235 urban towns in Rajasthan into three categories potable, partially potable and unpotable depending on the quality of drinking water available in these towns. The report stated that 11 urban towns of the state have unpotable water supply, it means water in these cities are unsafe.

The survey revealed that water of five towns in Rajasthan – Bhiwadi and Kharital in Alwar district and Navalgarh, Surajgarh and Chirawa in Jhunjhunu district has a high concentration of nitrate. Water consumed in Govindgarh in Alwar has a high concentration

of TDS. Lastly, water available in Nadbai in Bharatpur, Ratangarh in Churu and Fatehpur Shekhawati, Ramgarh Shekhawati and Losal in Sikar is contaminated owing to multiple parameters.

Tripura to set up transgender welfare boar

The Tripura government is thinking of constituting a welfare board for transgender persons residing in the state, said social welfare minister Tinku Roy.

He has held a meeting with a group of lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning persons or the community (LGBTQ) on their rights and social security recently to address some crucial issues.
A 24-point charter of demands was raised in the meeting asking to formulate a strategy and policy to protect the rights of LGBTQ people. The community members demanded the government undertake steps for eradicating the social stigma associated with LGBTQ and constitute a board for them, the minister said. “We have tried to make them aware of the composition of such boards like other states. Normally, such boards are headed by transgender poeple and the policies are implemented by trans persons. We are not yet aware of the government’s decision but the minister made it clear that the government is keen to resolve our problems,” said LGBTQ activist Sneha Gupta Roy.
