The onion export from Maharashtra has increased by 27% during the April-October period of the current financial year (2022-23) when compared to the same period last year.
According to data provided by the Agricultural and Process Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), which functions under the Union ministry of commerce and , onions export from Maharashtra state increased to 7.32 lakh metric tonne (MT) during the April-October period of the current fiscal, earning foreign currencies amounting to Rs 1,389 crore.
The state had exported 5.9 lakh MT of onions during the same period (April-October) during the previous financial year 2021-22, earning foreign currencies amounting to Rs 1,399 crore.
Last financial year, the onion exporters had got a rate of Rs 2,420 per quintal on Average due to the scarcity of onions. But the onion exporters received comparatively low rates this year as compared to last year due to the huge supply of onions. Onion exporters got a rate of Rs 1,897 per quintal on average.
The state exported 5.78 lakh MT of onions during 2021-22, against 7.9 lakh MT of onions during the previous financial year 2020-21.
