As the state Health Services in Maharashtra were hit hard during the Covid pandemic due to shortage of medical and senior officials, the state cabinet on Wednesday gave post-facto sanction to the proposal to increase the retirement age of medical officers and those above them by two years, from 60 to 62 years.
The decision will apply to those working under the state health service directorate and Employees State Insurance Scheme (Esic). However, it will be applicable only up to May 2022.
In May 2021, 193 senior officials from Maharashtra medical and health services and ESIC were due to retire at the age of 60 years as per the retirement criteria.
