Maharashtra govt to borrow Rs 3,948 crore for health infra

The state cabinet on Tuesday cleared a proposal to seek a loan of Rs 3,948crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), under theministry of housingand https://exam.pscnotes.com/urban-POVERTY“>Urban Poverty alleviation (MoHUPA), to boostHealthInfrastructure in the state.

Since thepublic health departmentgets a much lower budget vis–vis its demands, a loan had to be raised to complete pending projects and also to ensure uninterrupted health Services in the state. As per the proposal, a Rs 3,948-crore loan will be sought in the first phase which will have a moratorium of three years and will be paid back in 10 years at the interest rate of 6.95%.

The funds will be used for construction and expansion of sub divisional hospitals, completion of the 102 ongoing works which include maternity homes, health centres and purchase of medical equipment.
