The central food safety department under theministry of Health and family welfarehas awarded ninth rank to Madurai in terms of food safety index among the top 75 districts in the country. The districts were assessed by Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (Fssai) in an Eat Right Challenge based on the food safety index released on Wednesday. Madurai has been placed third among 22 districts inTamil Nadu.
While Coimbatore has been placed first in the national as well as state ranking, Dindigul district took second place in the state ranking. Nadus rank has dipped from first last year to third spot this time. Madurai has scored a total of 177 marks out of 200 marks in the Eat Right Challenge. Last year, Madurai was at 42nd place in the national ranking and eighth in the state ranking.
Among states,Keralahas taken the first spot this time. Last year, 13 districts from Tamil Nadu featured among the top 75 while this year trhe number has gone up to 22.
