Kolar to get citys second animal birth control centre

Delayed by about three months, second animal birth control (ABC) facility to sterilize, vaccinate stray dogs in state capital will be functional by the end of the month. Two more ABC facilities are expected to be functional by March end.

BMC has a dedicated wing for dealing with stray animals. Penalties are being imposed and owners of cattle are sensitised about movement of stray cattle on city roads. A census by the veterinary department in 2019 estimated there are around 10,000 domesticated dogs in Bhopal. The number of stray dogs could be 1.3 to two lakh dogs in the state capital.

Last October, 35% of all the complaints across MP were linked to stray animals in public places. Around 22% of the complaints were unresolved.
Currently the number of dogs sterlisations being conducted is low. Three times more puppies are born per day, according to BMC experts.
