Jharkhandtopped the chart in the India and Empowered Action Group category and improved to sixth place on the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in the recently released special report of the Registrar General of India.
According to the latest report for the period between 2017 and 2019, Jharkhands MMR has improved to 61 maternal deaths per one lakh live births from over 72 deaths per one lakh live births. The registrar general released the report as part of the goals (SDG) set by the United Nations Organisation to reduce the global MMR which mandated that it should not be beyond 70 deaths per one lakh live births.
With only 61 deaths per every one lakh live births, Jharkhand has topped the chart in India and Empowered Action Group category which included states like Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh andUttarakhand.
