Jharkhand: Bhojpuri, Maghi dropped from list of regional languages in Bokaro and Dhanbad districts

The Hemant Soren government on Friday removed Bhojpuri and Magahi from the list of regional languages in Bokaro and Dhanbad districts for district-level EMPLOYMENT examinations to be held by the state staff selection commission.
The move was aimed at quelling the ongoing language row which has been raging in the area for weeks.

In an order, the state department of personnel, Administrative Reforms and Rajbhasha nullified its previous notification of December 24 last year, which subsequently triggered the language row by pro-tribal outfits.

It also notified Bhojpuri and Magahi as regional languages in Garhwa and Palamu districts while Angika is listed as the regional language in Dumka, Jamtara, Sahebganj, Pakur and Godda districts. Odiya will be considered a regional language in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts.
