Gujarats judiciary disposed as many as 3.03 lakh cases during aNational Lok Adalatorganized at district courts across the state, the firstLok Adalatheld in courtrooms after the Covid-19 pandemic set in.
Thousands of FIRs that were registered against people for lockdown violations, with charges of violation of the Police notification, under the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act, were also disposed of. These cases were taken up during special sittings in courts alongside the Lok Adalat, said a judicial officer.
According to the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority, under whose aegis the Lok Adalat was held, a total of 2,78,697 pending cases and 24,345 pre-litigation cases were disposed of. In all, disputes involving accident claims were settled and amounts to the tune of Rs 767.76 crore were paid to claimants. These disputes included a case in which a claim of Rs 71.25 lakh was paid to a litigant at the Mirzapur rural court in Ahmedabad.
