Government plans reopening of anganwadi centres in Odisha

The Women and child development department on Saturday asked district collectors to makeanganwadicentres ready for reopening. The department also asked the collectors to send a report on the preparedness by February 16.
The department instructed officers to ensure that the buildings of the anganwadi centres are fine and the facilities have all the equipment. Official sources said, with Covid-19 cases decreasing, the Odisha government is planning to reopen the centres across the state and directions in this regard will be issued soon.

Anganwadi centres provide pre-school training to children aged between 3 and 6 and take care of their Nutrition and early childhood care and Education (ECCE). In February 2021, the had allowed reopening of anganwadi centres with Covid-19 norms in place. But they shut due to re-emergence of Covid-19 cases in the second wave. Again, on January 5 this year, the government announced to shut schools and colleges following the resurgence of theOmicronvariant.
