Gennova to get Rs 100 crore from govt for Covid-19 vaccine

Pune-basedGennovaBiopharma, developing Indias first indigenous messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine against Covid-19, will receive government funding of Rs 100 crore, making it the first such large project to be funded under the `Mission Covid Suraksha. The company will receive up to Rs 100 crore under the Covid Suraksha scheme, upon successful completion of Phase 1 clinical studies.

The mRNA vaccine technology is synthetic in nature, and is being used for the first time ever to combat any disease. At present, globally two mRNA Vaccines of Pfizer and Moderna, have shown over 90% efficacy in preventing Covid-19 infection.
