The Dinosaur Fossil at Bagh area of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh is set to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Eco Tourism Development Board is preparing its draft. The tourism department will send this proposal to UNESCO through the Government of India.
This will be the first site in the country where dinosaur fossils are found.
Along with this, 65 million years old eggs of carnivorous dinosaurs were also found. This place was one of the safest places for them to lay their eggs. Fossils of 256 eggs have been found here. Eggs joined in many layers becoming fossilized.
The board is also trying to include these parks in the country’s first UNESCO Global Geo Park list along with the World Heritage List. This area is the oldest dinosaur fossil site in Asia. This area was notified as Dinosaur Fossil National Park in the year 2011.
Satpura Tiger Reserve and Bhedaghat-Lamheta Ghat in Jabalpur were included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2021. Only those sites with specific characteristics are included in the list of potential sites. At present, the temples of Khajuraho, the caves of Bhimbetka and the Stupa of Sanchi are included in the World Heritage List in the state.
