Chief Minister Hemant Soren today unveiled the Safe and Responsible Migration Initiative (SRMI) at Project Building Secretariat. At present, the policy has been made keeping in mind the migration of workers from Dumka, West Singhbhum and Gumla under the SRMI pilot project.
From these three districts, a Database of migrant workers who have gone for EMPLOYMENT in places like Delhi, Kerala and Leh-Ladakh etc is being prepared. Social, economic and legal rights of migrant workers will be ensured by coordinating with all these states. A rule has been made to prevent the exploitation of migrant workers in any manner. After the success of this pilot project in the initial phase, the scope of the system can be made bigger. The CM on the occasion said that despite large scale migration from Jharkhand to other states and countries there was no proper policy to safeguard the interests of migrant workers. It is the effort of the that we can prepare a complete database of all the labour brothers and other people from Jharkhand who go to other states or countries in search of employment and help them at the time of calamity under the policy. Certainly migration to Jharkhand in the last Corona transition period has felt to be a very big and very worrying topic, he said.
Soren said that people of the State migrate to different states of the country and also abroad for better means of employment.
The CM appealed to the migrant labourers of the state that they must register themselves in this portal. There is also a need to establish coordination between the Central and State government in order to protect the migrant workers who work in other countries. He said that in such a way, many ambitious schemes are being run by the State Government so that the workers here can be provided employment in the vicinity of their homes.
