Under PMGSY, 2,589 roads of 16,297 km have been constructed in Chhattisgarh with an expenditure of Rs 8,736 crore.
This is mainly due to the government’s consistent allocation of funds towards the renovation of these roads as per the directive of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the statement said.
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ravindra Choubey said there has been significant progress in the maintenance and upgradation of roads constructed under the PMGSY in the Naxalite-affected Bastar division.
The maintenance of 75 roads, totaling 231 km, was completed at a cost of Rs 37 crore.
Similarly, 146 roads in the tribal-dominated area of Surguja division, spanning a length of 560 km, were maintained at a cost of Rs 90 crore. The Minister said no funding was provided by the Centre for these works. However, the state has sought Central government funding for these initiatives.
