Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday launched an ambitious project to generate power from cow dung in Bemetara town to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Addressing the event, Baghel said amid the global emphasis on green energy, the decided to produce power from cow dung.

This will be done with the participation of villagers, Women and youths, helping the villages to move towards self-reliance in electricity.

A unit to generate electricity from cow dung will be installed in each village in Chhattisgarh, mainly at Gauthan. It will benefit the Environment and indirectly help women self-help groups involved in dung procurement.

In the first phase, units of power generation have been installed in Rakhi in Bemetara, Sikola in Durg and Bancharoda in Raipur districts.

The biogas plant, scrubbers and generation sets will be installed to make power. The biogas generated from cow dung will be utilized to run the generation set. The cost per unit of the electricity produced from cow dung ranges from Rs 2.50 to Rs 3, Baghel said.
