Startups in India have generated around 7.67 lakh jobs in the last six years (as of June 30) with majority of the EMPLOYMENT generated inMaharashtra, the commerce ministry told theLok Sabha. Around 72,000 startups have registered themselves under Department for Promotion of and Internal Trade (DPIIT’s) Startup India scheme in the last six years (2016-2022) with 2022 alone recording 12,341 registrations nationally, minister of state for commerce Som Prakash said.
Maharashtra topped the job creation list with more than 1.46 lakh people employed at the state’s startups. Despite housing the country’s tech hub, Karnataka was a distant second with over 1.03 lakh jobs, and Delhi ranked third with 87,643 jobs. The total number
