UP is home to a large population of tigers. The threetigerreserves in UP Pilibhit, Dudhwa and Amangarh make the state a potential ground for thriving ecotourism. Protected areas in the state also have a fleeting population of tigers who cross over from neighbouringUttarakhandandMadhya Pradesh.

The 2018 tiger census had projected around 173 tigers in UP which was a remarkable increase of about 48% against the national Average of 33% from the previous census held in 2014 which counted around 117 tigers in UP. CM requested that the union government should remove the ceiling on the loans for the externally assisted projects in view of the special conditions and limited financial resources of the State. He also requested that the government of India should provide a sum of Rs 1174 crore for the Song dam drinking water project in the State as special assistance.

Dhami said that the Population of Dehradun is increasing rapidly due to which the demand for drinking water is also consistently increasing. In view of this and considering future needs a project is proposed on Song river which is a tributary of Ganga. He said that the estimated cost of the project is Rs 2021 crores. The project envisages providing 150 MLD drinking water by use of gravity to Dehradun and its peri urban areas. A population of about 10 lakh would get drinking water from the project. Dhami said that the project once completed would end the dependence on tube-wells for providing drinking water. A 3.5 km long lake would also get formed due to the Song dam which apart from providing impetus to tourism and creating new EMPLOYMENT opportunities would help in preserving the Environment. The CM told the union finance minister that flood control is another objective of the project. The project would provide protection to a population of 15000 in 10 villages from the floods which affect them every year.

Land for Uttarakhands first sports college for women identified

Almost two-and-a-half years after it was announced that a Sports college for Women would be constructed inUdham Singh Nagar, authorities have identified the land for it and a detailed project report has also been sent to the for its approval.

The sports college for women, a first inUttarakhand, is proposed to be constructed on a 65-acre land in Rajpura village of the district’s Kichha town.

The construction is likely to be completed in two years. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 20 crore.

The announcement of the sports college was made in January 2020 by the then chief ministerTrivendra Singh Rawat. Later, whenPushkar Singh Dhamiassumed the office, he directed all sub-divisional magistrates to identify land for the project.

Niti Aayogs SDG Index 2020-21: Uttarakhand best-ranked state in law and order situation

Uttarakhandsecured the top spot in terms of better law and order situation in the recently-released Goals (SDG) India Index 2020-21 by the NITI Aayog.

Uttarakhand was ranked an overall third along with Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Karnataka on the index for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) released by the NITI Aayog on Thursday. The states followed Kerala which retained the top spot and Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu which were jointly in the second position.

App to make U’khand roads pothole-free

Chief ministerPushkar Singh Dhami launched a ‘Patch Repairing App’ prepared by the public works department (PWD) with the aim to involve people in repair work on roads.

Using this app, a person can click a photo of a pothole on the road and inform the PWD about it. Following this, the PWD will get the repair done and later post the photo of the patch work to the complainant, officials said. “This app will help immensely in making the roads free of potholes across the state. The information provided by people will help us in repairing such roads at the earliest,” the CM said. Dhami also mentioned that the road repair would be completed within a week and the responsibility of officials would be fixed.

In an event at the state secretariat, Dhami said that departmental officials need to keep an eye on the complaints and ensure they are timely resolved.

In sync with the Digital India policy propounded by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Panchayati Raj department of Uttarakhand transferred a sum of Rs 85 crore into the bank accounts of three tier Panchayati Raj bodies of the state with a click of the mouse on Friday. The amount is the first installment of the untied grant of the central Finance commission for the year 2021-22 to the state.

The secretary of department, H C Semwal said that Rs 63.75 crore was digitally transferred to village Panchayats, Rs 8.50 crore to the Block Panchayats and Rs 12.75 crore to District Panchayats through PUBLIC FINANCE Management System (PFMS).

Uttarakhand govt to lay thrust on horticulture, tourism sectors

With the start of the new financial year, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the targets set by various departments and the efforts to achieve these targets at his secretariat office on Saturday. He directed the officials to hold review meetings on a regular basis to collect updates on works done and measures required to achieve set targets.

“We are working in the direction of making Uttarakhand one of the best performing states by 2025 and we need to work collectively. We need to fix time limit for our works and ensure they are completed within deadline,” Dhami said. To promote the integration of orphans with mainstream children, 850-plus identified orphans will be admitted in 13 hostels exclusively made for them.

The hostels would cater the educational, Health and moral needs of these children, who do not have any guardian to look after them in the crucial growing age.

At the event, he assured the residents that “across all the medical colleges cardiac catheterization laboratory and adequate MRI and CT scan facilities in district hospitals along with technicians will be deployed.”

Uttarakhand: Tourism sector lauds ‘Dekho Apna Desh’

Hotelier Manav Kochhar said, “Centre’s initiative to develop tourist destinations across the country will surely benefit the state as Uttarakhand is known for Char Dham Yatra and adventure tourism. We already have an airport and one more is about to come to the state. Things like air safari have great tourist attractions, and I hope the government will promote such facilities by making a video on them to get maximum benefit.” Meanwhile, Shyamal Chatterjee, an industrialist associated with CII, said that 95% of the total industries in Uttarakhand are MSMEs and the announcement of the revamped credit guarantee scheme of Rs 9,000 crore is commendable.

Tree house in Uttarakhand forests from next year

TheUttarakhand forest departmentwill open up atree housefor tourists in the Fato range of theTerai west forestdivision near Ramnagar in Nainital from early next year. This would be the first tree house opened for tourists in the Himalayan states jungles, officials said.

The tree house concept, they added, promotes sustainable living without causing damage to natural surroundings.

As the structure has been built in the -rich Terai west forest division, visitors will get to enjoy sightings of tiger, elephant and deer while sitting in the comfort of their rooms in the tree house.
