In order to mitigate the woes of the economically weaker sections of society, the Uttar Pradesh government has so far distributed approximately one crore metric tons of free food grains across the state since the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic since April, 2020.

As per governments directives, the distribution was carried out entirely through PoS devices with biometric Aadhaar and dealer authentication in a transparent manner.

The distributed around 76,39,378 MT of free food grains under PMGKAY, while approximately 23,60 lakh MT of free ration was separately distributed by the government, which was in addition to the ration being distributed under PMGKAY. The total distribution amounts to 100 lakh or I crore MT in the state.

In order to help the migrants, poor and under-privileged sections to tide over the hardship of pandemic, the government is providing free 5 kg food grains to over 15 crore beneficiaries of the state. Under the scheme, each beneficiary receives 3 kg wheat and 2 kg rice.

During the last fiscal 2020-21, out of a total allocation of 58, 1 lakh MT food grains under PMGKAY-2020 (April-November 2020), approx 56,21 lakh MT or around 96.87 per cent, has been distributed by the state.

In 2021 (PMGKAY III) so far, out of a total allocation of around 22,77 lakh MT food grains (May -July 2021) approximately 20,18 lakh MT, which is 91.40 per cent, food grains have been distributed by the government.

PMGKAY was first introduced in 2020 for eight months to provide relief to around 15 crore beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) from Covid-induced economic hardships. There are more than 1.30 crore units of beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana and over 13, 41 crore units under Priority Household card holders.

GIDA gears up to accelerate process of setting up industries

In an attempt to accelerate the process of setting up of industries, the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) will soon initiate the application process for allocation of 253 industrial plots in different sectors, including the plastic and readymade garment park projects among others.

According to GIDA Chief Executive Officer Pawan Agrawal, the allocation process for the new plots will expedite the development of a plastic park.

As per the available data, 92 plots with a total area of 2,18,859 square metre will be allotted in the plastic park located in Sector 28. The sizes of these plots range from 594 square metre to 20,764 square metre. A total of 42 plots will be available with sizes up to 1,000 square metre, 42 plots with sizes ranging from 1,001 to 4,000 square metre, five plots with sizes ranging from 4,001 to 20,000 square metre, and three plots with sizes exceeding 20,001 square metre, for which entrepreneurs/investors can submit their applications.

Similarly, a total of 41 new plots will be allocated at the Garment Park in GIDA Sector 26, covering a total area of 28,340 square metre. These plots will have sizes ranging from 510 to 1,000 square metre.

Notably, GIDA has emerged as the preferred destination for investors over the last six years, similar to Noida, due to improved law and order situation as well as -friendly and transparent policies of the Yogi government. During the Global Investors Summit held in February, Gorakhpur received Investment proposals worth Rs 1.71 lakh crore.

Hemlata Diwakar from Agra, Kamini Rathore from Firozabad, Pramila Pandey from Kanpur, Sunita Dayal from Ghaziabad and Archana Verma from Shahjahanpur have got the distinction of becoming the first citizens.

Hemlata Diwakar defeated the BSP candidate with a margin of over 1.88 lakh votes while Kanpurs Pramila Pandey won the electoral battle with a margin of over 1.77 lakh votes.

Shahjahanpurs Archana and Firozabads Kamini Rathore won by 30,000 and 26000 votes respectively.

Only 5% found positive in 69,000 tests in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh

Out of the 69,474 people, who underwent rapid antigen test in rural Uttar Pradesh, 3,551 or a little over 5% were found positive.

The five-day testing campaign, being carried out across the states 97,000 revenue villages, is taking place in the aftermath of the panchayat polls and amid reports of rising Covid-19 cases in villages. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that teams would visit every single Home and check people for symptoms, isolating those who test positive and ensure that they are given medicines.

To prevent thespread of novel coronavirusspread in rural UP, amass testing drivehas been launched in villages. Teams are going to all houses to provide treatment and counsel patients.Door-to-door screeningand testing is being done by monitoring committees.

UP govt to train grampradhans, others forbeautification of villages

In an effort to make the villages of Uttar Pradesh clean and beautiful, the Yogi Adityanath government will now impart training to gram pradhans, block motivators, panchayat assistants and cleaning staff. A total of 21 training centres will be set up across the state and 83,000 people will be trained in different sessions.

As per the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, preparations are underway to take appropriate steps regarding the management of solid and liquid waste in all the villages of the state and to train the gram panchayat officials for this.

In the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), more than 25,000 gram panchayats of the state have been included for the financial year 2023-24. The training of master trainers has been completed recently.

In this sequence, training will be provided to about 83,000 people like village heads, block motivators, and panchayat assistants, who will actually work in the villages.

In contrast, Meghalaya took third with a tableau based on ‘Meghalaya’s 50 years of Statehood and its tribute to Women-led and SHGs.’

KGMU listed as advanced centre for clinical trials

he Indian Council of Medical Research (Icmr) has nominated King George’s Medical University (KGMU) as an advanced centre for clinical trials in the central zone. The council has published the name of the 12 institutes of six zones across the country.

KGMU has been selected from the central zone which includes Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,Chhattisgarhand Madhya Pradesh.

The central research agency had sought applications from interested institutions to participate in the Indian clinical trial and Education Network (INTENT) programme. KGMUs application was selected after scrutiny and it was approved that the medical university will act as an advanced centre for clinical trials. ICMR is developing a centralised network in selected medical institutions and medical universities, which would run clinical trials of drugs, therapies and Vaccines. Besides, researchers will also be trained in these institutes.

For harnessing agricultural and processed food products exports potential from the eastern Uttar Pradesh , APEDA (Agriculture Produce Export Development Authority) organised Agri-Export Conference-cum-Buyer Seller Meet at Mirzapur, attended by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Anupriya Patel, and more than 700 farmers, exporters and farmers.

Addressing the conference, Anupriya Patel said that the increase in agricultural and processed food products exports from Purvanchal would not only boost Indias Foreign Exchange earnings but also help in doubling the income of farmers as well as boost EMPLOYMENT opportunities in the region.

The minister said that the country had set a $400 billion target for merchandise exports for 2021-22 and $262 billion of exports had already been achieved during April-November 2021-22 period.

She said that a record export target of $43 billion had been set for agricultural products in 2021-22 and because of efforts by APEDA and farmers, this target would be achieved in the current fiscal.

More than 200 farmers from the Varanasi region participated in the meet where agricultural scientists and officials from the leading institutes provided valuable inputs for promoting agricultural products exports from the region as well as adherence to globally recognised Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) by farmers

The Central and Uttar Pradesh governments have shown their full commitment to the maintenance and beautification of the state’s heritage sites which lay neglected during the previous regimes.

The Central government, under its Swadesh Darshan Scheme, has allocated a total of Rs 33.17 crore to improve the , enhance the attraction and ensure tourist security at the heritage sites of Uttar Pradesh, which are known as the land of Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Buddha, Kabir and Mahavir Jain.

The tourist attractions being renovated include the invincible Kalinjar Fort located in Banda district that is about 1,500 years old and one of the largest forts in the country; Shaheed Sthal Chauri Chaura (Gorakhpur) built in memory of the martyrs who gave a U-turn to the war of independence; Martyrs Memorial in Meerut built in the memory of martyrs who started the war of independence back in 1857 and Sloam Chaupal in Muzaffarnagar.
