Halt power generation from irrigation water: KRMB to Telangana

A day after Andhra Pradesh moved The Supreme Court on drawal of Krishna waters by , the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) wrote to Telangana Genco director (hydel) to stop water drawals from Srisailam Left Bank Canal, Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala projects for hydel power generation.

Both Telangana and AP have been at loggerheads over water sharing and hydel power generation for the past one month. AP had earlier complained to the KRMB to restrain Telangana from generating hydel power from projects on Krishna river. AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union jal shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in this regard.

But, the Telangana government directed the Genco to generate power at full capacity. Genco started generating 1,400 MW from all its units. The government has been arguing that the state had been drawing its rightful share of water from the Krishna and said Srisailam is primarily a hydel power generation project.

The Telangana cabinet also insisted that water allocation should be 50:50 for Telangana and AP. With tensions rising, Police forces were deployed at the hydel power generation units at various projects.

Observing thatTelanganais at the top in the country across various development parameters, chief ministerK Chandrasekhar Rao said the state has surpassed Punjab inpaddy production.

The state is achieving rapid progress and Governance is being carried out with a humane approach, Rao, also known asKCR, said.

While there is 24×7 power supply in Telangana, it is not the case in neighbouring AP which is only 20 kilometres away (from Gadwal), Rao said.

Govt to revive ‘Mana Nagaram’ to boost connect with citizens in Hyderabad

The BRS government plans to revive the ‘Mana Nagaram’ programme in the city to give people a platform for raising grievances and quick solutions. The lone event in 2018 ahead of polls was a huge success and this has prompted the government to hold it again.

In a 1st, Telangana to deploy drones to drop vaccines in remote areas

Telanganahappens to be the first state in the country to receive permission from the ministry of civil aviation to use drones for delivering coronavirus Vaccines to various primary Health centres, authorities said.

The one-year conditional exemption for Telanganas Medicine from the Sky project will kick off on a trial mode in early May at the Vikarabad Area Hospital.

As part of the project, eight selected start-ups would be divided into four batches of two consortia and each batch would carry out the sorties for 6 days to complete the 24-day trial. A week to conduct an on-ground recce would also be given to all consortia before the start of the programme.

Each drone would carry a combination of dummy vials and regular vaccines over the course of the trials and the performance would be recorded in detail and this data shall be used to guide further policies regarding full-scale adoption.

The has asked the District Administration to plan the on-ground operations and has also identified nodal officers to bolster the move.

Telangana AI Mission startups to get access to NSM AI computing infrastructure

TheTelanganaAI Mission (T-AIM), a joint government andNASSCOMinitiative, on Tuesday said it has facilitated twoMoUsbetween Telangana government and theCentre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC) andIndian Institute of Technology Hyderabad(IIT-H).

The MoUs will provide the 142 AI startups being supported by T-AIM through its accelerator programme called Revv Up with affordable access to high performance AI computing (HPAIC) through the public Infrastructure set up under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
The MoU was signed with C-DAC will allows Revv Up startups to access India’s largest and fastest AI scalable supercomputing infrastructure with 410 AI Petaflops at no cost for a certain period in a benefit that translates to Rs 10 crores in economic value created for T-AIM startups. After that, startups can continue to utilise facilities at rates that are a third lower than those offered by private cloud infrastructure providers.

The MoU signed with IIT-H will offer PARAM SEVA computing infrastructure of 833 teraflops, which was also built by C-DAC under the aegis of NSM, at discounted rates for Revv Up startups.

Telangana govt set to borrow Rs 47,500 crore this fiscal

Faced with a financial crunch and increasingexpenditure, theTelangana governmentwill be going for a Rs 47,500 croreloanthis financial year. As part of the first instalment to raise the loans in the form of , the State Government has got permission to raise Rs 8,000 crore from theReserve Bank Of India(RBI). This amount will be raised from April to June in multiple instalments.

In the month of April, the government has planned to raise Rs 3,000 crore. Bonds worth Rs 1,000 crore were raised in the first 15 days of April, and another Rs 1,000 crore will be raised on the 27th of this month. The willborrowRs 3,000 crore each in May and June through the auction at RBI.

Till last budget, the state government had earmarked 17% of the funds for repaying the loans and interest payment. Since the formation of the state, the government has borrowed Rs 4 lakh crore either in the form of loans or guarantees.

Telangana among top six states in investments, new projects: Report

is countrys sixth most popular Investment destination, with Rs 81,126 crore invested in 388 projects between April and December 2021.

According to the latest ECOWRAP report released by the State Bank Of India (SBI) on Wednesday, Telanganas 338 projects also place it among the top six states in announcing new projects during this period.

Gujarat tops in investments (2. 32 lakh crore), followed by Maharashtra (1. 51 lakh crore), Tamil Nadu (1. 43 lakh crore),Karnataka(Rs 91,016 crore) and Uttar Pradesh (Rs 81,151 crore). During the same period, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh attracted Rs 33,861 crore in investment from 224 projects.

Telanganas strong investment policy framework combined with a good response mechanism played a significant role in the states emergence as a major investment destination since its formation in 2014, officials said.

Antibiotic use in Telangana third highest in India: Study

Telanganastood third in India in the use of antibiotics, according to an international research report. Overuse or abuse of antibiotics has been linked to increased antimicrobial resistance. This has often resulted in the emergence of superbugs that do not respond to even tertiary antibiotics, say experts.
According to the report on annual consumption of antibiotics published in the latest issue of the scientific publication, Journal of Antimicrobial Resistance, recorded the third highest consumption of antibiotics in the country between 2011 and 2019. While Delhi stood first, Punjab occupied the second position.

Telangana ups share in Indias GDP to 5%

Hit by Covid woes, Telanganas gross state domestic product (GSDP) dipped 1.29% (at constant price of 2011-12) to Rs 9.78 lakh crore during 2020-21. However, the share ofTelanganain the nationalGDPincreased by 26 basis points to 5% in 2020-21 as against 4.74% in 2019-20.

The Growth rate fell 1.26% at constant prices (2011-12) due to Covid pandemic but is significantly better than Indias projected GDP contraction at 8%, said IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao while launching the industries and commerce departments annual report.

He pointed out that in 2020-21, Telanganas economy benefited from Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and allied sectors, which grew by 21% as compared to 3% growth at the national level.

The Industrial Sector growth, including the mining sector, contracted by 5.6% in the state as against 8.2% contraction at national level and the Services-sector”>services sector too contracted nearly 5% in 2020-21 as compared to a national contraction of 8.1%, the report said.

First in country, Telangana moves to index its crops

After the paddy procurement row with the Centre and the urging farmers to opt for alternate crops,Telanganahas, for the first time in the country, began recording crop diversification patterns in the form of an index. The state grows 77 varieties, according to the crop diversification index, with about 10 crops, mostly grains, preferred for diversification. Nirmal, Vikarabad andSangareddyare more diverse in the state.

It has also been discovered that the three least diverse areas werePeddapalli,Karimnagar, and Suryapet. Interestingly, in these districts, where paddy cultivation is prevalent, maize Cropping area has decreased significantly, whileCottonincreased. The index, according to state officials, would serve as a baseline for future crop diversification in the state.

The index has a base value of one. It denotes the Percentage of total cropped area devoted to a single crop. Many districts in the state have index values ranging between 0 and 5, and the higher the value, the greater the crop diversification.
For the current index calculations, the area under 77 different crops, including all food, non-food, and Cash Crops, as well as the area under floriculture, was used.

Crop diversification efforts have resulted in a 77.9% decrease in maize acreage from 9.7 lakh acres in 2019-20 (in vaanakalam) to 2.1 lakh acres in 2020-21 (vanakaalam).
Cotton acreage increased by 10.9% during the same period, from 52.6 lakh acres to 58.3 lakh acres, while red gram increased by 45.1% from 7.3 lakh to 10.6 lakh acres.
