Telangana govt appoints VCs for 10 universities

Almost two years after vice-chancellors (VCs) of various universities demitted office, the government has appointed vice chancellors for ten state universities. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan cleared the names of new VCs following the recommendations of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The second biggest and oldest university Kakatiya university, Warangal also got the head of the university from the same institution.

Of the 10 universities, the government has ensured representation to all the major communities in the state.

Telangana agriculture exports jump by 40%, pegged at Rs 10,000 crore

In a positive sign for ‘s efforts in the Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture sector,Telanganahas witnessed almost 40% increase in agriculture exports between 2020 and 2022. While agriculture exports stood at Rs 6,337 crore in 2020-21, it rose substantially to about Rs 10,000 crore in 2021- 22.

According to the data recently released by the central government, Telangana and Maharashtra are two states which have shown marked Growth in agriculture exports. In just five years, from 2017-18 to 2021-22, it has increased from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore in Telangana.
Telangana’s top exports include Cotton, spices, Cereals and meat. According to experts, the exports from Telangana have improved due to innovative methods, increased use of technology and cold storage facilities.

As per the data, cotton exports totalled Rs 3,055 crore in 2021-22, while spices, coffee and tea accounted for Rs 1,936 crore. Cereals contributed Rs 1,480 crore and meat exports accounted for Rs 268 crore. The state also exports rice, maize, lemon, grapes,mangoand soyabean.

The data from the state also shows that total foreign direct Investment inflows in the agriculture sector in the country have a high share from Telangana. The state attractedFDIworth 3,000 crore between 2019- 2021.

Currently, state is focussing on increasing the exte-nt of oil seed farming which will increase exports base.

Schemes for development of women: Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said his government is implementing a slew of welfareschemesaiming to uplift Women, empower them and enhance their dignity.
The CM, who extended greetings to all women forWomen’s Day, saidTelanganais emerging as thewomen welfarestate through the implementation of welfare programmes aiming for the Empowerment of women.

Rao said the government is safeguarding the girl child from the stage of growing in the mother’s womb by implementing significant schemes from their birth, Health, protection, welfare, Education, marriage, development and empowerment of the child.

900 crore boost for road infra in tribal villages

Telanganawill spend Rs 900 crore towards providing connectivity with bitumen roads to tribal habitations with poor road Another Rs 500 crore has been allocated for theRegional Ring Roadproject and Rs 498 crore for road netw- ork improvement programme in leftwing extremist-hit areas.

In all, Rs 6,859 crore has been allocated to roads and buildings department, includ- ing construction of the new secretariat (Rs 400 crore) in the statebudgetfor 2023-24.

T-AIMs for data annotation clusters in state, inks MoU with Tika Data

In a bid to position the state as a go-to destination for high quality data annotation Services as part of its thrust on developing an (AI) ecosystem, theTelanganagovernment has inked anMoUwith Bengaluru-basedTika Datafor setting up a data annotation cluster in the state.

As part of this agreement, Tika Data is expected to set up three centres, most likely in Jakranpalle, Armoor and Dichapalle mandals of Nizamabad district, and train and employ over 100 local people. Data annotation is nothing but the categorisation and labelling of data for AI (artificial intelligence) applications. The Growth of the data annotation Industry is driven by the growth of AI/ML based solutions because the quality of the AI/ML model is dependent on the quality of training data, Telangana government said on Thursday while announcing the MoU.

The PARTNERSHIP was the result of a data annotation roundtable conducted by the Telangana governments Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) initiative that is powered byNasscom.

Telangana: E-classes for govt & small private schools now hang in the balance

While students of corporate or international schools are continuing Education with online classes, those from government and private budget schools will have to study on their own for now.

The state had extended holidays to all educational institutions, except medical colleges till January 30. ThoughOsmania UniversityandJawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, directed colleges to conduct online classes, no such directions have been given by the school education department.

The has not yet released the schedule of digital classes either, while many private budget schools have not yet made arrangements to conduct online classes.

When it comes to private budget schools, the Telangana Recognised School Management Association (TRSMA) members said that hardly 5% to 10% of schools, which have been conducting classes in the hybrid mode.

20.2 crore trees planted in 2022

The state forest department announced that they have achieved beyond their target and planted 20.25 crore trees under the governments flagship Harithaharam. Their set target for plantation was 19.54 crore and officials note that they have achieved 103.6 percent of their target.

Implement Official Languages Act, use Telugu in govt biz: PIL

A (PIL) petition has been filed before the High Court, challenging the inaction of the State Government in implementing theOfficial Languages Act, 1966 and subsequent GOs notifyingTeluguas the language to be used for all official correspondences within the state, including issuance ofgovernment orders(GO).

One Guntupalli Srinivas filed the petition arguing that only 13 per cent of the Population can understand the GOs issued in English, which is unfair, unjust and a violation of the basic postulates of Democracy.

Srinivas argued that transacting government business in English creates an uninformed or misinformed citizenry. He stated that of the 8.45 crore Telugu-speaking people only 1.1 crore can understand English. Eighty-seven per cent of the population cannot understand government orders in English.

Srinivas contended that the state government did not act on his various representations, requesting the constitution of aTelugu Language Development Authorityand appointing Official Language supervising officers as contemplated in various GOs issued. He pleaded the high court issue directions to the government to implement the Official Languages Act by introducing Telugu in all governmental business from the state secretariat to the village secretariat level.

Forest fires wreck fertile land in Telangana, 80% infernos are man-made

Forest fires continue to ravage fertile land inTelanganawith 9,520 hectares of forest land getting burnt this year alone. Senior forest department officials confirmed that 80% of these fires were man-made.
Worse still, out of the 11,657 fire alerts received by the officials, 11,202 were related to raging infernos in the reserve forests.

While forest fires in the state are majorly caused by careless beedi smoking by shepherds and cowherds, farmers taking to slash-and-burn Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and burning forest tracts for obtaining fresh tendu leaves and mahua flowers are also blamed for the frequent forest fires.

According to data from Forest Protection Management Information System (FPMIS), the incidence of over 9,000 hectares of land getting ravaged was marginally (2%) less than last year. The data was recorded between November and June, which is considered as the season for forest fires. The forest areas of Telangana are mainly dry deciduous in nature as leaves start drying up and falling on the ground from January onwards.

Telangana Memorandum of Understanding with US co on Web 3.0

The signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Coinbase Inc, an American-based trading company to build a strong Web 3.0 community in Telangana.

Principal secretary (IT, Industries and Commerce) and director of emerging technologies wing Jayesh Ranjan and Rama Devi Lanka from Coinbase Inc signed the agreement as per which the private company will be supporting Web 3.0 entrepreneurs of Telangana through capacity building sessions, mentorship programmes, and promoting initiatives with the help of Telangana’s innovation ecosystem partners. Coinbase Inc. will also work with the state on upcoming Web 3.0 Regulatory Sandbox aimed at supporting organisations working with Web 3.0 tech to navigate regulatory systems. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Telangana to establish itself as the hub of Web 3.0 technology in India,” Ranjan said.
