GI tag sought for Chapata Chilli, sweetest among Indian peppers

Chapata WarangalChilli, one of the sweetest chillies in the country, has been lined up for a geographical indication (GI) tag. If it gets the tag, the total number of GI-tagged goods from will swell to 18.

Thimmapetchilli farmer producer company andJanna Reddy Venkatreddy Horticulture Research Station of Sri KondaLaxmanTelangana State Horticulture Universityhave filed an application with GI Registry in Chennai seeking the tag.
The red dried version of chapata chilli, also known as Tomato Chapata WarangalChilli, is unique to Warangal and looks similar to Mexican capsicum.

The horticulture university and chilli growers said the Warangal chilli is high in colour and low in heat. On the Scoville Scale (a tool for measuring the spiciness or pungency of hot peppers), this chillis heat or pungence value is almost negligible.

Telangana Ku Haritha Haram, biggest plantation drive in country

TheTelanganagovernments flagship programmeTelangana Ku Haritha Haram(THH), taken up to enhance the green cover in the state is the biggest plantation drive in the country and third in the world after China and Brazil. After launching theTHH, had planted 239 crore saplings in the past six years, which is nine crore more than the target 230 crore.

Chief ministerK Chandrasekhar Raostarted THH in July, 2015 with an intention to improve the forest coverage to 33% from the 24% in 2014. The National Forest Policy of India, 1988 also envisages 33% of forest cover. There is a gap of about 9% in the forest cover in the state.

In the past six years, the forest department and other departments have planted over 160 crore saplings outside the forest areas and another 80 crore with the forest areas after 7th THH programme conducted this year. This include direct plantation and rejuvenation of degraded forest.

TheKrishnaRiver Management Board (KRMB) will hold a meeting withTelanganaandAndhra Pradesh(AP) in the second week of August, top sources said.

Official said the respective delegates will discuss water allocation for the current year 2021, detailed project reports for all Irrigation projects and objections being raised on the projects and hydel power generation by both the states.

The meeting assumes significance as theNational Green Tribunal(NGT) has recently directed the KRMB to inspect the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) project site independently, without seeking help from AP and submit a report on August 9. The government even offered to provide helicopter for the KRMB team to reach the site.

A total of 1,13,043 individuals 79,506 from rural areas and 33,537 from urban areas were part of the ICMR-INDIAB study conducted across India between October 18, 2008, and December 17, 2020.

Top-class educational hub coming up in Gajwel constituency of Telangana

The government has sanctioned Rs 126.28 crore for an educational hub in Gajwel constituency which is being represented by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The hub being executed by the Telangana State Education Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation would house classes from six to postgraduation in English medium on a single campus.

Two separate educational hubs for boys and girls were built in Gajwel in 40 acres and 20 acres respectively.

Spacious classrooms, dining halls, libraries and laboratories have been set up with the highest standards. The total built-up area would be 4.59 lakh sq ft.

Telangana schemes going national, says urban development minister KT Rama Rao

Municipal administration and urban development minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday said several schemes anddevelopment programmes, which were first launched inTelanganaare now being implemented across the country.

Rao said the Union governments Jal Jeevan, Rythu Bandhu and now Nagar Van are schemes inspired by governments development programmes. After Rythu Bandhu, the Centre has come up with Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana, which is benefiting about 16 crore farmers, he said.

According to the forest department, so far, 220 crore saplings had been planted under Haritha Haram at a total cost of Rs 5,900 crore. This year, the target is to plant 20 crore saplings and distribute six saplings to each household, said forest minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy.

Telangana government to source testing kits from Tamil Nadu & Karnataka

The state at one point struggled to get kits as many of the antigen kit suppliers were based around Delhi, which is facing a huge outbreak of Covid-19 cases.

New 6-digit BIS gold hallmarking norm to kick in across 8 districts of Telangana

All gold jewellery will need a new security check of a six-digit alphanumeric code from April 1. The norm is being rolled out by the Bureau of Indian Standards (Bis) across India to make buying of gold jewellery, and artefacts that fall under the hallmarking system, a safer process.

InTelangana, it will apply to gold traders in eight districts: Hyderabad,Ranga Reddy, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Warangal Rural,Warangal Urban, Khammam, andNalgonda.

Previously, this HUID was restricted to four digits. “Though consumers do not have to worry about their jewellery (with four-digit HUID) as that too will remain valid, they should be careful while buying new ones post April 1. They should check for the six-digit HUID on the hallmarked jewellery. This is done to protect the interests of consumers and to bring transparency,” Rao said.

Centre did not sanction single medical college in Telangana, says Health Minister T Harish Rao

Health Minister T Harish Rao alleged that while 157 medical colleges have been sanctioned in the country by the centre, not a single college has been sanctioned inTelangana.

While addressing the press conference at Hyderabad, he said, “In 70 years of united AP rule, three colleges were established but in seven years we got 17 colleges. We were able to get 12 new colleges in seven years. Eight medical colleges are being established in this academic year.”

Chief MinisterKCRsanctioned 510 crores for each medical college. A total of Rs 4,080 crore has been sanctioned so far,” he stated.
