NagaI surprises big cities in Swachh rankings

TheSwachhSurvekshan surveys usually dominated by big cities in the state had an unusual topper in the 2022 rankings.Nagapattinamhas secured the third spot among the 23 towns and cities in the state, even surpassing Trichy, Erode andTiruppurin the 1-10 lakh Population cities category.

The coastal town has got 2,483 marks, only next to Salem and Thoothukudi municipal corporations in the state. In the citizen voice and certification categories, Nagapattinam has outperformed many major cities in the state. Meanwhile,Thanjavurrecorded its lowest rank in the survey by securing the 377th spot out of 382 cities, placed at the bottom among the inTamil Nadu. Pudukottai and Kumbakonam local bodies were placed at 267 and 287 ranks, respectively. The below-Average performance of all urban local bodies in the state was also attributed to the conduct of urban local body Elections between January and February early this year.

Government of Tamil Nadu recently announced its plan to set up Indias first Dugong Conservation Reserve in the Palk Bay on the southeast coast.

Dugong or sea cow is an endangered marine mammal. It is facing extinction because of habitat loss, sea pollution, and loss of seagrass.

Dugong is found in Gulf of Mannar and at Palk Bay in Nadu.

Gulf of Mannar is a shallow bay area between south eastern end of Tamil Nadu and western Sri Lanka.

With the help of community participation, Government will also construct a Dugong Marine Conservation Reserve in the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay area to protect the species.

Marine Conservation Reserve will be established over an area of 500km in Palk Bay.

It is believed that, an estimated 200 individuals live in the Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar area which would largely benefit from Tamil Nadu governments recent decision to establish conservation reserve.

K ThalavaipuraminTuticorindistrict ofTamil Naduhas become a model village by achieving 100% Covid vaccination. All the 412 people aged above 18 years in the village located in Kannakattai panchayat have been administered with at least one dose ofCovishieldvaccine.

The district has 1,405 villages in 403 panchayats that come under 12 blocks, 19 town panchayats, two municipalities and one corporation (Tuticorin).

It is aimed at making them model villages for the respective blocks and local bodies to motivate other villages to reach the mark to stay protected from the pandemic.

Anna univs calibration lab gets NABL accreditation

Anna Universityhas achieved a significant milestone by becoming one of the first technical institutions to receivethe NationalAccreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) recognition for its state-of-the-art medical equipment calibration laboratory.

The Centre for Calibration and Testing of Medical Equipment (CCTME), a part of the DST-supported National Hub for Healthcare Instrumentation Development (NHHID), will now be able to calibrate up to 50 essential medical equipment items, including ventilators, ECG machines, pulse oximeters, patient monitors, infant incubators, and defibrillators. The lab is equipped to conduct calibration across 40 different parameters.

GI tag sought for Chettikulam shallots

NaduState Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture Marketing Board andChettikulamSmall Onion Farmers Association inPerambalurhave jointly applied forGeographical Indication(GI) Tag for the shallots largely cultivated in the area.

Shallots, a much sought after vegetable all over the country, are mainly cultivated in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Perambalur district is a major player among shallot growing districts in the state. Perambalur is the hub for the vegetable cultivated on more than 20,000 acres. Chettikulam is the main onion cultivation centre in Alathur block, which includes 12 other areas.

Tamil Nadu to frame new guidelines for online classes for colleges

TheTamil Nadugovernment is planning to frame new guidelines for online classes for arts and science colleges and colleges of Education to prevent any form of harassment to the students.
It has set up a seven member committee headed by director of collegiate education C Pooranachandran to prepare draft guidelines for online classes. The ordered the school education department to prepare a new guidelines for online classes following the complaints from students that a teacher from city school attended the online class with improper dress.

Colleges also submitted their suggestions in writing to the regional join directorate of college education. The suggestions varied including astrict dress codefor teachers and students, monitoring and recording of online classes.

TN Assembly adopts resolution seeking timeframe for Governors to approve bills

The Nadu Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution to urge the Centre and the President to fix a timeframe for State Governors to approve Bills adopted by the respective Houses.

The bill, moved by Chief Minister M K Stalin and adopted by the House also sought the President and the Centre to ‘advise’ Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi to give his assent to the Bills passed by the state Assembly in a time-bound manner.

The government’s move came in the wake of bills including the ones seeking exemption to Tamil Nadu from the NEET ambit and banning online gambling pending with the Raj Bhavan for the Governor’s assent.

While moving the Bill, Stalin launched a tirade against the Governor, saying Ravi was not approving certain bills due to his “whims and fancies.”

He also charged Ravi with converting the Raj Bhavan into a “political Bhavan” and accused him of being against the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.

The resolution “regretfully” recorded that by keeping the Bills pending, the Governor was against the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.

The Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitaraman inaugurated the first 3D printed HouseHouse at IIT Madras.

The HouseHouse was once constructed using indigenous 3D printing technology. It used to be built in just five days. It was constructed via TVASTA Manufacturing based on a thought via former IIT-M students.

3D printing is a system of making three-dimensional objects via digital instructions. It is additionally called Additive manufacturing. It is the opposite of Subtractive Manufacturing. Subtractive manufacturing is slicing away from a giant material.

The Global market of 3D printing is predicted to reach 34.8 billion USD by using 2024.

Tamil Nadu Ethanol policy hits sweet spot

Naduhas finally come up with a policy that should sweeten the deal for farmers and sugar factory owners. The primary goal of the Tamil Nadu Ethanol Blending Policy 2023 is to attract investments worth 5,000 crore for molasses/grain-based ethanol production and make the state self-sufficient in meeting the estimated annual requirement of 130 crore litres.
The byproducts of this effort will be better income for farmers as demand for feedstock grows and a revival of the states sugar Industry as utilization of existing mills increases.
Worldwide, the future of the sugar industry lies in ethanol. In Brazil, the worlds largest sugar producer, only 40-45% of its sugarcane goes into sugar production. Half the crop is directly used for ethanol production. After almost 20 years of talks and 5-6 years of real push, India has achieved 10% ethanol blend and is set to take it up to 20% by 2025.

Credai unveils Real Estate Vision 2030 report

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (Credai) on Saturday came out with Real Estate Vision 2030, Nadu, a comprehensive report on the sector.

Minister for Housing and Urban Development S. Muthusamy released the report at Credai Fairpro 2022 event, which is happening at the Chennai Trade Centre.

The Minister launched an Insurance scheme for workers rolled out by Credai in PARTNERSHIP with Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board. The insurance cover includes personal accident relief, educational assistance and marriage assistance.
