Tamil Nadu to set up state SC/ST commission

Chief minister M KStalin announced that the would set up a stateSC/ST Commissionwith statutory powers to protect the legal rights of SC/STs. The government will award villages with 10 lakh for maintaining harmony among communities and being role models for others.

To improve Education in schools run by theADTW department, theschool education departmentwill step in to provide training to the teachers and impart computer education. The state government has issued orders to set up four new special courts to try cases relating to SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, in addition to 18 existing courts. A decision has been taken to set up four new courts in Salem, Krishnagiri, Madurai and Tirunelveli due to pendency of cases. Training will be provided to Police and revenue officials to provide relief to the affected people.
The chief minister said the financial aid extended to the affected people under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act will be enhanced to minimum of Rs 1 lakh and maximum of Rs 12 lakh

Tamil Nadu mulls turning ECR into focal point for water sports

The scenic East Coast Road will soon be in the limelight, with the planning to develop it into a hub for water Sports, sailing and other similar activities. The move is part of efforts to make the most of the states coastline dotted with as many as 15 beaches including at Rameswaram, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari.

Sources say water sports facilities can be set up near getaway spots and popular beaches. There are also plans for helicopter tourism atTiruvalluvarstatue in Kanyakumari and Rameswaram, adventure tourism at Ooty, Kodaikanal and to formulate new trails around Arupadaiveedu, Ramayana trail, etc.
The aim is to create value-based tourism and the right eco-system for the young to stay longer, spend more.

Nilgiris should strive to become net zero

Additional chief secretary (Environment, https://exam.pscnotes.com/Climate-change”>Climate Change and forest department)SupriyaSahu said a district-level Climate Change Committee, headed by the collector, has been set up in theNilgiristo turn it into a carbon-neutral or net zero district. Speaking at the Carbon Neutral Nilgiris event held in the town on Thursday, Sahu said, Climate change is nothing but a balance between emission and consumption of carbon. This programme has an inclusive agenda keeping in mind the Flora and Fauna in the Nilgiri Biodiversity and to making everyone aware of what the district holds for us. The Nilgiris is the water tower ofTamil Nadu.

Economist and member of the Tamil Nadu Governing Council Montek Singh Ahluwalia said the Nilgiris should strive to become a net zero district. Stating that the Nilgiris is a low carbon district, Erik Solheim, executive director (6th), UNEP and member of the TN Governing Council, said the movement should become people-centred.

Tamil Nadu Industrial Corridor – ADB

The Asian (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $484 million loan agreement to improve transportation connectivity and facilitate industrial development in Tamil Nadu’s ChennaiKanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC). ADB is the Government of India’s lead partner in developing ECEC.

The ChennaiKanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC) is a part of the East Coast Economic Corridor in India (ECEC).

It reaches all the way from West Bengal to Tamil Nadu.

It connects India to the South, Southeast, and East Asian production networks.

App for medico-legal cases introduced in Kanyakumari dist

TheKanyakumaripolice on Tuesday introduced a Medico-legal case intimation system to link hospitals with Police stations and digitize intimation of medico-legal cases, as a pilot project.

State minister for information technology,T Mano Thangarajinaugurated the new digital application, in the presence of district collector P N Sridhar,SP D N Hari Kiran Prasad, and others.

The minister said that more than 235 schemes of theTamil Nadugovernment are functioning digitally and efforts are on to establish an additional 16,000 government e-seva centres across the state.

This new application introduced by Kanyakumari police can deal efficiently with medico-legal cases such as road accidents or attacks. Whenever such a patient is admitted to a hospital, they can intimate the police control room by entering the details in the app.

Tamil society was literate 2,600 years ago: Minister

Society was educated even before 2,600 years for which the evidence was found in Keeladi archaeological exploration, said state minister for industries, Tamil Official Language, Tamil culture and archaeology Thangam Thennarasu.

Thennarasu said that various Tamil words used in Sangam literature are still used among thecommonpeople. Though the land was divided based on their types in that period, it was the Tamil language that united everyone in the region. Literary works like Thirukural and Tholkapiyam teach Ethics to people, he said.

There is a common perception that literature is ancient or old. Though Tamil literature is very old narrating the past glory, they are guiding lights for the future with their teachings. Madurai city is the cultural capital ofTamil Naduand the city is closely associated with Tamil culture.

India’s Largest Floating Solar Power Project in TN

India’s largest floating solar power plant has been inaugurated in Nadu by its Chief Minister, M K Stalin, at the cost of Rs.150.4 crores.

M K Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has inaugurated India’s largest floating solar power plant, which cost Rs 150.4 crores to build.

The floating plant would offer clean energy at the Southern Petrochemicals Industries Corporation Limited (SPIC) factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

Its goal is to deliver environmentally sustainable energy generation while lowering carbon emissions.

The floating power station can generate 42 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.

Greenam Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AM International, owns the solar power plant.

For the structures and designs, SPIC collaborated with Ceil & Terre, a global leader in floating solar power.

Tamil Nadu police slip to fifth place in justice delivery

Nadu, which in 2019 ranked second in the overall delivery of Justice by Police after Maharashtra, slipped to fifth place in 2020. The second edition of India Justice Report (IJR), an initiative by the Tata Trust, saw Karnataka topping with a score of 5.71 out of 10, closely followed by Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. TN police scored 5.40 of 10.

The report, which ranks states based on indicators such as structural availability of Resources, staff, diversity, budget allocation and vacancy levels, highlights strengths and weaknesses of each pillar in the state, encouraging internal assessments for introducing positive changes.

In terms of gender parity, 18.5% of constables in TN, while it was 24.8% of officers were Women. On capacity building, IJR says police personnel per training institute is an indicator to measure adequacy of training institutes and that TNs 23 institutes train an Average of about 5,400 personnel each.

Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin launches full-day annadanam scheme

Chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday launched whole-day annadanam (free food to devotees) in three more temples attached to the Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR & CE) department in Rameswaram, Madurai and Tiruvannamalai.

He launched the scheme through video conferencing at Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram, Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai and Arunachaleswarar temple in Tiruvannamalai. Food will be served from 8 am to 10 pm and it is expected to benefit about 8,000 devotees on a daily basis.

Already, free lunch is served in 754 HR&CE temples in the state. In Palani Murugan temple and Aranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam, full-day annadanam scheme was in place before the DMK government assumed office. It extended it to the Murugan temples in Tiruchendur and Tiruttani and Mariamman temple in Samayapuram. The spends 25 lakh to provide annadanam to more than 70,000 devotees on a daily basis.

IIT-Madras sets up centre to work on water issues

IIT Madras is establishing a new inter-disciplinary water management and policy centre called AquaMAP to work and solve water problems in India. The centre will provide smart solutions for water problems by designing scalable models by leveraging innovative technologies.

IIT Madras alumniParasuramBalasubramanian, CEO, Theme Work Analytics, andKrishnan Narayanan, president, itihaasa Research and Digital have supported this initiative in the form of a seed grant commitment of 3 crore for two years and help in crafting the five-year plan.
The centre would carry out pilot studies in at least six water innovative villages or towns which can be showcased as replicable models.Ligy Philip, department of civil engineering, IIT Madras, will be the principal investigator of AquaMAP.
