Tamil Nadu: Drones to be used for 3D images of temples

In a bid to introduce transparency and efficiency, theTamil NaduHindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department proposes to digitize moveable and immoveable properties of 44,000-odd temples under its purview, within eight months. It would take up drone surveys to develop 3D images of the temples and their properties, which devotees can view from any part of the world.

The government is clear in its approach to introduce transparency and efficiency in the administration of all the 44,227 temples located across the state. So far, the HR & CE department has uploaded data related to 32,239 temples in the existing Thirukoil web portal.

The department would engage an agency to develop digital elevation and surface models, covering the entire 4.95 lakh temple properties with survey numbers.

TNASDC launches free certificate programme

NaduApex Skill development Centre for Banking Financial Services and Insurance (TNASDC-BFSI), a skill development initiative of Tamil Nadu Government, is launching two free certificate programmes: one in banking and finance, and another in fintech skills, in May 2023 for the students of Tamil Nadu. The certification programmes are part of the State governments flagship Naan Mudhalvan skilling initiative. Fully funded by the State Government, the programmes: Certificate Programme in Banking and Finance, and Certificate Programme inFintech Skillswill be conducted in hybrid mode. Students of government colleges, state universities, and aided colleges – besides, those from non-aided colleges belonging to Economically Weaker Sections can apply for the courses online.

To become eligible for the programmes, students will have to clear a free entrancetest- to be conducted on April 16 across the state.

Tamil Nadu to extend numeracy and literacy programme up to Class V

TheTamil Nadugovernment’snumeracy and Literacy programme”Ennum Ezhuthum” will be extended up to Class V, finance ministerPalanivel Thiaga Rajanannounced it in his budget speech for 2023-24 in the assembly.

The programme was launched last year aiming at achieving universal foundational literacy and numeracy for allstudentsstudying in classes I to III by 2025.
The minister said owing to the positive response, the programme is extended up to Class V. He also allocated Rs 110 crore in the budget.

The finance minister also announced that the would construct classrooms, labs, toilets at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore during 2023-24. The state government allotted Rs 40,299 crore for this.

Cauvery basin drilling to go on for 3 more years

The expert appraisal committee of the Union ministry of Environment, forest and https://exam.pscnotes.com/Climate-change”>Climate Change (MoEFC) has recommended extension of validity for development and drilling of wells in the Cauvery basin in seven blocks (on-shore) inTamil Nadufor three years.
The panel gave the recommendation following a proposal in this regard from theOil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited(Ongc).

ONGC had got environmental clearance on January 30, 2015 for drilling 30 development wells (on-shore) in the Cauvery basin in 7 blocks – Greater Narimanam ML block, Adiyakkamangalam ML block, Nannilam I andNannilam II MLblocks, Kuthanallur ML block, Greater Kovilkalappal ML Block andPundi ML Block.

These fields are now identified for production enhancement contracts. Development plan and drilling of new wells in these fields would be firmed up after detailed study, the report said.

Tamil Nadu not No.1 in organ donation

The number of donations from brain-dead patients in Nadumore than doubled to 156 in 2022 over 2021, when 60 such donations were registered.
The state, which has been the leader in organ donations till 2018, however, has not been able to get back first place. Health experts attributed the slowdown to inadequate participation by government hospitals.Telangana,which were far behind TN till a few years ago, is now at the top of the table with 194 donations.

According to Transtan, the state transplant authority, there were just 55 donations from government hospitals in Tamil Nadu in 2022.

While this is a steep increase from four and five donations recorded in 2020 and 2021 and the highest since 2008, experts say there is bigger scope.

Tamil Nadu framing policy for early diagnosis of cancers

Earlier this month, oncologists reported at least a 30% reduction in fresh cases of cancer in Nadu since 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, besides delays and disruptions in treatment as most people could not travel during lockdowns and some feared getting infected with Covid-19 in hospitals.

The effect of delayed diagnosis and treatment is likely to be more severe among Women when compared to men, oncologists say. Unlike in developed countries, more women in India are diagnosed with cancer when compared to men. Nearly 40% cases of cancer in women are either cervix or breast cancer, and this skews the cancer ratio across most states in the country, including Tamil Nadu.

CM unveils roadmap to enhance incubator ecosystem in state

Chief minister M KStalin unveiled aroadmapfor enhancing the incubator ecosystem in Naduthat seeks to spread industries and generate EMPLOYMENT across all the districts. The roadmap, prepared by Indian STEP & Business Incubator Association, was unveiled during ISBACON 2022, inaugurated by Stalin.

The roadmap envisions promoting one big Industry, 10 medium sized industries, 100 startups and 1,000 self-employed people coming up in each district every year and adding Rs 400 crore per district per year to the states GDP towards the broader vision of making Tamil Nadu a $ one trillion economy.

It suggested constituting a think tank which would advise the government on continuously improving the startup ecosystem, establishing at least five incubators per district based on the potential, creating innovation hubs as a starting point for encouraging made in Tamil Nadu products and enhancing the seed funds for startups.

Tamil Nadu to digitally document loose sculptures, inscriptions

The Nadu government has decided to digitally document loose sculptures and inscriptions that are not within any heritage site or religious places and conserve them in-situ.

A government order will be passed within this month to preserve the loose sculptures including hero stones, Jain, Buddhist sculptures and small inscriptions around the state, said commissioner of archaeology, R Sivanandam.

Around 25 lakh will be allotted every year for In-situ conservation of the sculptures, while 3 crore would be given to digitally record them, said the commissioner.

Madurai ranks nine in natl food safety index, 3rd in TN

The central food safety department under theministry of Health and family welfarehas awarded ninth rank to Madurai in terms of food safety index among the top 75 districts in the country. The districts were assessed by Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (Fssai) in an Eat Right Challenge based on the food safety index released on Wednesday. Madurai has been placed third among 22 districts inTamil Nadu.

While Coimbatore has been placed first in the national as well as state ranking, Dindigul district took second place in the state ranking. Nadus rank has dipped from first last year to third spot this time. Madurai has scored a total of 177 marks out of 200 marks in the Eat Right Challenge. Last year, Madurai was at 42nd place in the national ranking and eighth in the state ranking.

Among states,Keralahas taken the first spot this time. Last year, 13 districts from Tamil Nadu featured among the top 75 while this year trhe number has gone up to 22.
