IIT-Madras and Tamil Nadu govt join hands to make school education experience better

Starting with a new Learning management system which will be deployed in newly built high-tech labs in 6,000 government schools to improve the quality of learning for 90 lakh students, IIT-Madras researchers and Nadus department of schooleducationhave joined hands to make digital assessments and learning experience of school students better.

The collaboration between the IIT andTamil Nadu governmentis to provide a richer learning experience to the school students by improvising and updating the existing digital learning platform to an assessment focused learning management system.

Currently, the classroom Education of Tamil Nadus school students is supplemented through a digital learning platform i.e.Education Management Information System. IIT-M researchers will use their AI and data science expertise to come up with ways to improve the way assessments are conducted and framework for dissemination of educational material.

This initiative will be led by faculty, students, project associates and channel partners of the Robert Bosch Centre of Data Science and AI (RBCDSAI), a centre housed at the IIT with a vision to expand and further the research, education and outreach activities in the areas of data science andartificial intelligence.

The initiative will be executed in three phases first will focus on content management for educational material and assessment, second will work towards on delivery and feedback for educational material and assessment and the third phase will lay emphasis on data Analytics, Dashboards and Reporting system.

Food Security Museum Launched In TN

Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Piyush Goyal opened India’s first Museum.

Highlights:

The Food Corporation of India created a food security museum in Thanjavur.

Food Corporation of India (Fci) and Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museums, Bengaluru, collaborated on the museum’s creation.

It was constructed on a 1,860sqft plot at a cost of Rs 1.10 crore.

In Thanjavur, the birthplace of FCI, a museum was erected. On January 14, 1965, FCI opened its first office there.

The Food Security Museum depicts man’s progression from nomadic hunter groups to stable Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture practises, which marks the start of civilization.

It also highlights a number of historical global and indigenous grain storage technologies, as well as storage issues and food grain production situations in the globe and India.

The Madras High Court (HC) has set aside the 2018 notification of Central government that had fixed a speed of 120 km/hour as the limit on highways and expressways.

The order of HC was given on an appeal arising under the Motor Vehicles Act. Appeal was seeking the enhancement of compensation awarded to an appellant K Shyla.

In the central governments notification, speed limit was fixed at 120 km/hr on expressways, 100 km/hr on national highways while for M1 category of vehicles it was fixed at 60 km/hr.

According to a report of 2020 by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, six two-wheeler riders die every hour in India. Most of the two-wheeler riders are inviting accidents by over speeding.

Century Year of Madras Legislative Council

The President of India graced the commemoration of the 100th year of the Nadu Assembly on August 1, India Act 1919.

The term was 3 years. It consisted of 132 members, out of which 34 were nominated by the states governor, the rest were elected. It met for the 1st time on January 9, 1921, at Fort St. George of Madras.

The legislative Council was inaugurated by the Duke of Cannaught, a paternal uncle of the England King, on January 12, 1921, on the request made by Governor Wellington.

The Second and Third Councils were constituted after the general Elections held in 1923 and 1926, respectively.

The fourth Legislative Council met in November 1930 after the general elections of that year, and its term was extended from time to time, and it lasted till the provincial autonomy under the Government of India Act, 1935 that came into operation.

CM releases water from Mettur dam, Rs 76 crore for kuruvai cultivation

Chief ministerM K Stalinreleased water fromStanley Reservoirin Mettur for kuruvai crop cultivation in delta districts.

Stalin also announced a 75.95-crore Kuruvai Nel Sagupadi Thoguppu Thittam (kuruvai crop cultivation scheme). As per the scheme, farmers will be given fertilisers and farm materials at subsidised prices.

Tamil Nadu lost Rs 80,000 crore in revenue, tax share since 2014: Finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan

Census directorate, NIT-T ink pact on data research

In an effort to establish a census data workstation to promote research on census microdata, directorate of census operations (DCO), Nadu, and National institute of technology-Trichy (NIT-T) signed a memorandum of understanding.

The MoU was signed by representatives of the DCO Sajjan Singh R Chavan, (director) andV K Subha(deputy director) and G Aghila, director of NIT-Trichy.

NIT-Trichy is the first among the 31 centrally funded NITs to facilitate collaborative research on census data, thus providing a consolidated platform for researchers and data enthusiasts to analyze data generated during census operations in a secure manner. The office of the registrar general of India has set up workstations in different universities to make anonymized census microdata available to qualified researchers for study.

Chennai to host Asian Hockey Cship in August: Udayanidhi

International hockey will return to the city after a gap of 16 years with the mens Asian Championship, to be held here at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in the last week of August this year. The mens Asia Cup hockey championship in 2007 was the last international hockey event that happened in Chennai.

The minister has been quite active and has taken a few quick decisions to fast-track overall Sports development in the state and make Nadu a model for sports in the country. The State Government is keen on developing the grassroots-level Infrastructure, scout talent across the state and train them for the future, and also setting up three state-of-the-art Centres for Sports Science in Tamil Nadu.

Soon, TN farmers can avail benefits of all schemes without visiting officials

Thefarmerswill soon avail the Services swiftly as Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and farmers welfare department is going digital extensively. A new portal, GRAINS (Grower Online Registration of Agriculture Input System), will soon be introduced, where details of bank account, Aadhaar number of landowners and cultivators, land details and crop cultivation details will be collected and digitised a one stop solution to avail various services.
Presenting the agriculture budget, ministerM R K Panneerselvamsaid that farmers were required to visit several officials and submit many documents in different forms to avail benefits of theschemesof agriculture-related departments. The GRAINS portal will be designed to enable the farmers to easily get benefits of various government scheme, such as crop loan, incentive for paddy and sugarcane, relief assistance under state disaster response fund and benefits from 13 agriculture and allied departments, which will be useful not only to farmers but also to government departments, the minister said.

Following its successful implementation of cashless transactions in 37 agricultural extension centres, the agriculture department is all set to expand the service to 385 block agricultural extension centres in 37 districts next year. The department will also set up e-service centres in 385 agricultural extension centres in coordination withTamil Nadue-Governance agency.
