Govt making concerted efforts to make Punjab Carbon Neutral state: Arora

Punjab Government is making concerted efforts to make the state a Carbon Neutral state, and energy conservation is the focus area to abate greenhouse gas emission to save the Environment. The assertions were made by the states New and Sources Minister Aman Arora on Thursday while addressing the State Level Energy Conservation Day and Award function organized by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA).

During the event, the Minister felicitated the government and private sector entities with State Energy Conservation Awards at Confederation of Indian Industrialists (CII) Northern Region Headquarters.

Apart from this, Punjab has taken the lead to develop and notify Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code by amending National Energy Conservation Building Code for the composite Climate zone applicable in the state. The implementation has started by incorporating in the building bye-laws.

Nod to Rs 2K Net allowance for students in Punjab

Apart from clearing a scheme of government guarantee to provide one lakh government jobs, it was also decided to provide Rs 2,000 Internet allowance to nearly 8.67 lakh students enrolled in colleges of higher, medical or technical Education across the state due to Covid-19. The will be credited to accounts of the students.

The CM said as per the government commitment, an additional 125 persons from the families of farmers who died during the farm agitation, had been given government jobs. As many as 170 were provided jobs earlier.

CM launches loan waiver of Rs 12cr to 7,445 farm labourers, landless farmers

Debt relief certificates were given to 25 farm labourers and landless farmers on Sunday as symbolic launch of the loan waiver scheme, under which the recovery of loans given by the primary agricultural to the tune of Rs 12.73 crore to 7,445 such beneficiaries from Ropar and Mohali districts would be cancelled.

The State Government had decided to waive off Rs 520 crore loan of 2.85 lakh farm labourers and landless farmers with respect to the principal amount against their cooperative loans as on July 31, 2017, and Simple Interest at the rate of 7% per annum on this amount till March 6, 2019. Punjab government had earlier waived of Rs 4,700 crore worth of loans (up to Rs 2 lakh of crop loan each) for 5.85 lakh small and marginal farmers.

Punjab sees 30% dip in farm fires; encouraging trend, says expert

With the farm fire season coming to an official end for this year, the state reported 49,922 incidents of stubble-burning. The number is a lot less than the tally of two years. On the last day of the season, the state reported 15 cases of farm fire.

The state records stubble-burning data from September 15 to November 30 every year after the harvesting of paddy.

As compared to 76,755 farm fires in 2020 and 71,286 incidents in 2021, the state reported a sharp decline with only 49,922 farm fires this year.

With continuous efforts of all stakeholders, the area on which paddy stubble is burnt is expected to decline with a significant quantum in coming years. The trend of farm fires is declining. A comparison of data of the past three years shows that farm fires are on the decline in the state.

Punjab records 3rd highest number of deaths in judicial custody in last 3 years

Punjab recorded the third highest number of deaths in judicial custody in the last three years after Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Union minister of state for Home affairs Nityanand Raiinformed Lok Sabha on Tuesday that Uttar Pradesh registered the highest number of 126 deaths in judicial custody between 2018-19 and 2020-21, followed by Bihar (58) and Punjab (32). Punjab has nearly 24,000 prisoners in its 25 jails across the state, including nine central jails.

Punjab also witnessed three deaths in Police custody during the last three years. The Union minister said the https://exam.pscnotes.com/national-human-rights-commission”>National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended a total Rs 71.50 lakh compensation in judicial custody deaths cases, and Rs 13 lakh for police custodial death cases in Punjab during these three years. A total number of 103 cases of deaths in police custody and 460 in judicial custody were recorded across the country during the three-year period.

Haryana recorded 19 cases of deaths in judicial custody in the last three years, in which the NHRC ordered compensation of Rs 62.75 lakh. But no death was recorded in the police custody in Haryana during this period.

Punjab tops Union Education Ministry’s performance index, Chandigarh bags second spot

Six states and one Union Territory have attained the best rating of Level 2 (score 901-950) in the Union Education Ministrys Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2020-21, a unique index for evidence-based comprehensive analysis of the school education system.

The top performer in 2019-20, Punjab (929 points), dropped a point to score 928, while Kerala and Maharashtra improved their score from 901 and 869 points, respectively.

Chandigarh, too, improved its score to 927 points from last times tally of 912.

Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, which are among 12 states in Level 3 (851-900 points) along with Delhi, also improved their scores. Himachal scored 869 points, while Haryanas score was 865.

In a glowing tribute to the history of Sikhs, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday announced that the state of the art ‘Dastaan-e-Shahadat’ (Theme Park) depicting glorious history of Sikhs from ‘Pehli Patshahi to Dasvin Patshahi’ and Heritage Street would be inaugurated by Mid November.

Chairing a meeting, the Chief Minister said that the theme park would contain 11 galleries equipped with the ultra modern gadgets such as revolving theatre, Dome, Static Set, Live action studio, mixture of set and live shoot, 270 degree screen projection screen with double screens, set with murals, 360 degree screen with revolving table, Hologram with projection, mapping 270 degree and 3D animations.

Channi said the inauguration would be marked with full religious fervour (Khalsai Jaho Jalal) and prominent personalities from all walks of life besides representatives from other religions would also be invited for the mega event.

He directed the formation of the departmental committees for smooth and successful conduct of the event. “The DC Roopnagar has been made the overall coordinator and the SSP has also been ordered to ensure ample parking spaces besides unhindered movement of the traffic so as to avoid congestion on the roads,” added Channi.

It is notPunjab, but Meghalaya that has the highest average monthly income per agricultural household from July 2018 to June 2019. Punjab, however, is at second spot followed by Haryana.

The findings of the 77th round of National Sample Survey (NSS) for January-December 2019 were released on September 10. The survey, titled situation assessment of agricultural households and land and holdings of households in rural India, 2019, was conducted by National Statistical Office (NSO).

The various factors like income from wages, leasing out of land, net receipt from crop production, net receipt from farming of animals and net receipt from non-farming business have been added up in calculating the Average monthly income of the farming households in different states and union territories. The paid out expenses have been considered for working out net receipt.

According to the survey, Meghalaya recorded the average monthly income per agricultural household at Rs 29,348 which include Rs 6,936 from wages/salary, Rs 106 from leasing out of land, Rs 21,060 from crop production, Rs 842 from farming of animals and Rs 404 from non-farm business.

Average monthly income per agricultural household in Punjab for the same period has been calculated at Rs 26,701 which include Rs 5,981 from wages/salary, Rs 2,652 from leasing out of land, Rs 12,597 from crop production, Rs 4,457 from farming of animals and Rs 1,014 from non-farm business.

Haryanas average monthly income per agricultural household for the period is Rs 22,841, which includes Rs 7,861 from wages/salary, Rs 621 from leasing out of land, Rs 9,092 from crop production, Rs 4,020 from farming of animals and Rs 1,249 from non-farm business.
