CAPSI to set up drone pilot training centre in Tripura

The Central Association for Private Security of India (CAPSI) has taken an initiative to set up a drone pilot training centre in Tripura and an aviation academy for the northeastern region, CAPSI president Kunwar Vikram Singh said during the North East Security Education and Global Employability Conclave.

It was attended by MoS for external affairs & education R K Ranjan Singh and MoS for socialjustice& Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik.

The first-of-its-kind conclave has brought together security organisations and professionals on acommonplatform, which focused on establishing state-of-the-art training institutes, promoting security courses of international standards, generating EMPLOYMENT andwomen empowermentand contributing to the Growth of the region, Bhoumik said.

New species added to bird list of India from Arunachal

A team of scientists from Bombay Natural HISTORY Society (BNHS), Mumbai, while exploring the high-altitude coniferous forests ofArunachal Pradesh, has recorded a rarespeciesofbirdwhich has been identified as the Three-banded Rosefinch after detailed observations.

The bird was recorded on February 8, 2021, but the team some took time for confirmation. We recently published this finding in the journal Indian Birds. Our team is conductingintensive surveysof finches across the Eastern Himalayas as a part of an ongoing study funded by Oracle.

So far 1,340 bird species have been reported from India and with the advent of technology and enthusiast birders reaching remote areas of the country, several species are being reported each year.

NE to have tourist circuit trains: VaishnawTourist circuit trains will be introduced in the northeast, covering all prominent locations of the region, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said. According to a release issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Vaishnaw, who visited Guwahati, also said that a study to increase rail connectivity in the northeastern states was underway.Promoting the rich heritage of northeast and showcasing its beautiful culture to the entire world has been an endeavour of the Railways, Vaishnaw said.

The basic objective of the conference organized by the Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER), with support of the Centre-runMSME Development Institute Imphaland Manipur C&I department, is to provide opportunities to MSMEs in Manipur. The other aim is to update MSMEs to meet the challenges emerging from changes in technology, demand and emergence of new markets.

Unlike many parts of the northeast, Manipur is fortunate to have a potential to be the gateway to ASEAN and with the improvement in Infrastructure, it will serve as an important import- export hub for the NE region.

No border talks between Assam and Nagaland now

The border talks between Assam and Nagaland to defuse tension along Mokokchung-Jorhat will take place only after the Covid-19 situation in Nagaland is under control.

Though Assam has not imposed lockdown, it has barred inter-district travel and extended curfew hours from 12 noon to 5am to break the chain of transmission. On Monday, Assam had 51,694 active cases with 3365 deaths.

Northeasts recovery rate is below the national Average of 91.60 per cent. Nagalands recovery rate is 74.90 per cent while that of Assam is slightly better at 81.41 per cent. Tripura has the best recovery rate in the region at 86.17 per cent.

TMBU inks MoU with Meghalaya univ

With the aim to promote quality Education and excellence in postgraduate research in cutting-edge areas of edification for students, researchers and TEACHING community, the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) andUniversity of Science and TechnologyMeghalaya(USTM), Meghalaya,have joined hands to facilitate teaching, research and technology transfers in fields ofcommonteaching and research interests as well as in the allied activities between the two universities.

Under the collaborative arrangement, both TMBU and USTM will participate jointly in imparting education, teaching and research activities requiring expertise and . They will share laboratory facilities, enter into faculty collaboration, exchange of information etc.

Shillong Technology Park Was Inaugurated In Meghalaya

Meghalaya Chief Minister Shri Conrad Sangma recently opened the Shillong Technology Park.

Highlights:

The primary goal is to re-integrate Meghalayans who have left the state to pursue work. In addition, the park will provide new job possibilities for the state’s youth.

The park’s principal goal is to provide various job opportunities for the state’s children. They should not consider leaving the state in search of better chances.

Meghalaya is currently constructing five-star hotels and other urban luxury facilities. The very first freight train arrived in the state lately. This will create the ideal Environment for the IT sector’s Growth.

The park will support incubation centers. These centers will collaborate with both the government and the private sector.

Companies from all across the country and companies from other countries have been invited to open their operations at the park by the .

The park is built on a plug-and-play model. The state government is already implementing an ISP strategy to improve the state’s Infrastructure.

The park will be developed in the same way. Infrastructure, Services, and People are the three components of an ISP.

To put it another way, set up the infrastructure. Provide the services that are requested. People must be empowered to reap the benefits.

The Meghalaya State Government will fund the initial phase of construction. For the following phases, the park will use a public-private PARTNERSHIP model.

Benefits And Needs:

Seventy percent of Meghalaya’s Population is under the age of 35. The IT Industry has a lot of potentials. In the state, there is a significant demographic dividend.

This will make it easier to put young people’s abilities to work in the IT industry.

According to the World Economic Forum, by 2025, half of the world’s workforce will require reskilling. This is primarily due to technological advancements.

Furthermore, job automation and the pandemic are causing more economic shocks. The tech park will fill this chasm.

Mizoram second in pupil-teacher ratio in country, says govt report

Mizoramhas the second best pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) in the country (one teacher for every 13 students) after(one teacher for every 10 students) according to the unified district information system for Education (UDISE) plus 2021-22 report released by the Union education ministry.

The high PTR in the two states can be attributed to low enrolment. While Sikkim has the lowest enrolment among all states (1.35 lakh), the enrolment in Mizoram is 3.09 lakh, which is the third lowest in the country.

The report states that Sikkim has 13,613 teachers in 1,259 schools, which implies that on an Average there are 11 teachers and 108 students in each school. In Mizoram, 3,911 schools have 23,366 teachers, which on average means there are six teachers and 79 students per school.

According to the report, nationally on an average, there is one teacher for 28 students while the enrolment is 26.52 crore.

Among the other northeastern states, Assam has 60,859 schools, which is the highest in the region. The states enrolment is 75.44 lakh students. With 3.52 lakh teachers the PTR stands at 21. The number of teachers in each school in Assam is on a par with the national average of six while the enrollment per school is a modest 124.

The PTR in all the northeastern states has been recorded to be better than the national average of 28Arunachal (15),Meghalaya(21), Manipur (16), Nagaland (14), Tripura (20).

Incidentally, Nagaland has double the number of teachers in a school compared to the scenario in Assam or the national average.

All NE states have a better PTR compared to Delhis figure of 30, but educationists said the northeastern states need more teachers in a school to pay more attention to the students. Barring Nagaland, all NE states have less than 10 teachers, while Meghalaya is at the bottom of the category with only four teachers per school.

A research institute in Agartala, which is a part of the Centre-affiliated Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI), has recently made bamboo bats, taking a cue from a study conducted by scientists at the University of Cambridge, and presented samples to H G Cricket Company in Meerut and Virender Sehwag Cricket Academy in Delhi. Arun Sharma, the director of the Agartala-based North East Centre for Technology Application and Research (NECTAR), along with a team of BCDI officials, also met Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb to showcase the product the institute has manufactured.

Tripura to use radio collars to track elephant movement

TheTripuraforest department, to reduce man-animal conflicts, has decided to use GPS-enabled devices to track jumbos movement, said deputy chief wildlife wardenKGRoy.

A Bengaluru-based company has been entrusted with the task of fitting radio collars around the neck of elephants and work is expected to be completed by December. The radio collars will help us track the movement of the wild elephants. We can take measures to push them back to forests if found anywhere near human habitations.
