Northeast’s first tea museum to come up at Dibrugarh in 2023

The first tea museum in thenortheastregion will come up in the “Tea City of India“,Dibrugarh, and will be officially opened to public in early 2023, saidRituparna Baruah,Assamtourism development corporation limited (AITDC) chairman.

The proposal for constructing a tea museum in Dibrugarh was approved by the state tourism department in 2016 and work on the ambitious project began in early 2017. For the second phase of the project an amount of Rs 40 crore has been approved by the NEC on a priority basis, Baruah said.

In the second phase, an auditorium, model tea garden and tea factory will be constructed inside the museum complex, which is spread over 2.66 acres of land, Baruah said.

Satellite, drone-based monitoring of projects in NEIn a bid for the proper and timely implementation of projects and schemes, the Central government has been monitoring their progress and accuracy through satellite, drone and mobile apps.

The Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) in collaboration with NESAC has developed a project monitoring mobile application. The official said that till December 7, 145 projects costing around Rs 3,393 crore have been sanctioned in various sectors under the North East Special Development Scheme (NESIDS). The North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) has sanctioned 14 projects worth Rs 90.86 crore in the Bamboo Sector during 2015-16 to 2021-22.

The NECBDC projects include, setting up of Cane and Bamboo Technology Park at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh; promotion of bamboo handicrafts, jewellery and utility products in Poma village, Papum Pare District, Arunachal Pradesh; setting up of bamboo crushing units in NER for production of bamboo powder in Assam; establishment of integrated agarbatti cluster with Zero Wastages Concept in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram; and bamboo resource creation through plantation in Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya. The NESAC was established in 2000 as a joint initiative of the Department of Space and the Shillong based North Eastern Council (NEC).

Three New Districts Createdin Nagaland

Nagaland has created a 3 new districts, Niuland, Tseminyu and Chumukedima.

Highlights:

Tseminyu, Niuland, and Chumoukedima are the three new districts proclaimed by the Nagaland government.

This comes less than a year after the state’s 12th district, Noklak, was established. Nagaland will now have 15 districts after the addition of the three new districts.

Niuland and Chumukedima have been formed out of Dimapur district, while the Tseminyu sub-division in Kohima district has been promoted to a district.

Despite requests for new districts from at least 11 tribes, the Cabinet could only consider three of them because some districts are Home to only one tribe and cannot be separated.

Manipur gearing up for Amur Falcon Festival at TamenglongWith an objective to spread awareness on the protection and conservation of Amur falcon, Manipur forest authority is gearing up for the seventh edition of the Amur Falcon Festival at Tamenglong district headquarters, 150 km West of Imphal on November 14. The day-long festival is generally celebrated in the first or second week of November to strengthen human-nature relationship and acknowledge the importance of this small raptor in the lives of People in the region.

The festival has become an annual affair since its first festival in 2015 with the peak Migration period of Amur falcon and best season for undertaking outdoor activities with an objective to address alternative and sustainable livelihood opportunities for the community though eco-tourism.

The Amur falcon (Falco amurensis) is the world’s longest travelling small raptors of the falcon family. Amur falcons migrate to their wintering grounds in South Africa, usually arriving in large numbers during October in Nagaland and Manipur besides other places in NE undertaking a yearly journey of about 20,000 km. They leave the region in November after having enough food for their non-stop flight to Africa where they spend their winters. The radio-tagging programme of Amur falcons started in Manipur in 2018 as part of an initiative to conserve wildlife and also to study the route of these long-distance migratory birds and the environmental patterns along the route as India is a signatory to an international agreement on conservation of migratory birds of prey.

Govt and ADB sign $61 million loan for development of Agartala

Indian government and Asian (ADB) signed a loan agreement of $61 million in order to improve liveability, promote new developments and harness technology.

The loan agreement will help in accommodating the expanding Population in Agartala city.

It will also build capacity of state agencies for improved service delivery.

Loan agreement between India and ADB was signed for Agartala City After Urban Development Project. This project is aligned with the vision of Centres Smart City Mission for upgrade urban Infrastructure Services. It will improve liveability in Agartala by providing better road connectivity, flood resilient measures as well as by making tourist places more attractive. ADB seeks to catalyse synergies with components of smart city which are being implemented in Agartala by means of this project. Components of the scheme include:

1. Shifting of electrical lines,

2. Improving road geometry,

3. Incorporating elderly, children, Women, & differently abled responsive features

4. Urban design interventions.

Chief ministerN Biren Singh flagged off a consignment of 1 MT of organicChak-Hao(black rice) to Europe at a simple function.

He also flagged off vehicles carrying quality seeds for distribution to villagers of different districts of the state affected by destruction of poppy plantations due to the governments War on Drugs campaign.

The seeds are being provided to villagers under the Alternative Seed Distribution Scheme of Manipur and Soil conservation (HSC) department.

Mobile app introduced by Arunachal police for safety, security of peopleIn a bid to provide an online platform to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to register complaints in the time of crisis, the police has rolled out a mobile application for safety and security of the citizens of the state, an official said. The Arunpol’ application has emergency feature through which one can easily reach out to a police station in the time of crisis, besides avail of a range of services, such us tenant verifications and clerance certification, at their fingertips, he said.Such interventions will further help the administration maintain the law and order situation in the state and ensure transparency, responsive and people-friendly policing, Khandu wrote on the micro blogging site.


Students to sound out government on Northeast chapter

Student organisations from the Northeast are planning to engage with the government and elected representatives to push their demand for a chapter on the Northeast in the National Council of Educational Research and Training curriculum.

Formed in 1961, NCERT is an autonomous organisation assisting and advising the Centre and state governments on policies and programmes for qualitative improvement in school Education, including promoting and coordinating research in areas related to school education besides preparing and publishing model textbooks.

The MHA had constituted a committee headed by M.P. Bezbaruah, member, North Eastern Council, in February 2014 to look into the look into the concerns of persons from the Northeast living in different parts of the country and suggest legal remedies.

Government health schemes to cover Covid expenses in Manipur

Manipur chief ministerN Biren Singhhas asked the public to avail benefits from the state Health scheme of chief minister-GI Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) and Ayushman Bharat Yojana for Covid-19 treatment.

The CM made the announcement on Sunday while interacting with Covid-19 patients under Home isolation through a video conference. Biren advised the patients to not feel depressed during their isolation period and said that they could easily recover from the infection within 14 days with proper medication.
