Arunachal Pradesh, a highly vulnerable state toclimate change, has come up with the Climate Change Management Mission 2047, a roadmap for the state to contribute to the global efforts to minimise and mitigate the crisis.

The plan aims to attain Climate regulation, increase carbon sinks and reduce CO2 emissions, increase green cover, restore the eco-system and improve livelihood and opportunities.
Chief ministerPema Khandu, chairing the 7th e-Pragati meeting virtually in Itanagar on Tuesday, said Arunachal Pradesh, being a part of the Himalayas and with one of the largest forest covers in the country, has a big role to play in dealing with and Global Warming.

According to records, the state witnessed an increase annual mean temperature of 0.05 degrees Celsius per year and 0.59 degrees Celsius in the past 40 years. From 1980 to 2019, a significant decreasing trend in southwest monsoon rainfall and also in annual rainfall has been observed along with increase in the number of dry spells and decrease in rainy days.

These states, mostly in the eastern part of the country, require prioritisation of adaptation interventions, the report pointed out.

Meghalaya to keep track of displaced

Like other states in the northeastern region,Meghalaya, which too has been affected by the steady exodus of people from violence-hitManipur, has decided to keep track of the displaced.

Chief minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma said directions have been given to the authorities concerned to keep track of people from Manipur taking refuge in Meghalaya.

He further said the has put a system in place, as part of which the headmen of the various localities and the district administrations are keeping track of everyone who is coming to Meghalaya from Manipur.

Manipur CM announces cash award for Olympians from state

Manipur Chief MinisterN Biren announced that all five Olympic-bound athletes from the state will be handed a financial support of Rs 25 lakh and will be given more cash award if they return with medals.

The CM said the gold medal winner will be given a cash prize of Rs 1.20 crore and the silver medallist will get Rs. one crore. The bronze medal winner will get Rs 75 lakh.

Northeast, a hub of abundant hydro power

The northeastern part of India is a hub of . It has almost 40 per cent of the country’s total hydro potential. Additionally, the region also has abundant resource of coal, oil and gas for thermal power generation. With continual improvement of Infrastructure and Communication facilities, the North East Region stands to become the Power House of India by utilising its power potential, especially in the hydel sector, according to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation.

The region is blessed with huge hydro potential of about 58,356 MW (>25 MW), out of which 2027 MW (about 3.47 per cent) has so far been harnessed as on 30th November 2021. Additional 2120 MW of hydro power are under construction. The balance of about 92.9 per cent is yet to be exploited. Contribution of NEEPCO in the hydro installed capacity of NER is 1,525 MW, that is, about 75.23 per cent. Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to transfer 14 major hydropower projects from private power developers to Central Public Undertakings (CPUs), including NHPC, NEEPCO, SJVN and THDC hydropower development in the state and the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) is due in May, reported The Meghalayan.

TheInformation Technology(IT) sector inArunachalPradesh received a major boost, with chief ministerPema Khanduflagging off five Mobile Digital Movie Theatres during a function.

Mobile Digital Movie Theatres are ready-to-assemble and easy-to-dismantle theatres housed in mobile trucks. These theatres are air-conditioned, fire and weather-proof and have a seating capacity of 150 people.

The five districts to have the first mobile theatres are Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Namsai,East SiangandTawang.

Manipur conferred with prestigious India eGovernance Awards 2022The e-office Manipur was conferred with the prestigious Award of recognition in the category State Project in the 20th Computer Society of India eGovernance Award 2022 in New Delhi.

With this award Manipur state eoffice becomes the only state in the Northeast India to receive such recognition at Delhi Technological University. Manipur’s IT department Director Nambam Deben accompanied by Joint Director Gurumayum Robert Sharma, Informatics Officer Herojit Senjembam and Senior Consultant State E Misson team Ng Deepa from Department of information technology, received the award along with NIC Manipur team led by SIO, NIC N Binod, Gopalkrishna Technical and Sharat.

It is worth mentioning that Manipur is the only State in North East which has implemented eoffice in the entire State at a very fast pace. Eoffice has been instrumental in smooth, fast and transparent Governance of the State.


Arunachal Pradesh & Mizoram Statehood Day

The year 2022 marked the 36th State Foundation Day of Arunachal Pradesh.

North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) was given a replacement name and a brand new identity as Arunachal Pradesh 50 years ago. Arunachal Pradesh became a full-fledged state on February 20, 1987.

Mizoram was the 23rd state of India. It had been made a state on February 20, 1987, with the 53rd Amendment Act of Indian Constitution, 1986.

Arunachal Pradesh Statehood Day

Arunachal Pradesh is named “Land of Dawn-Lit Mountains,” a state in Northeast India from the erstwhile North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) region.

On February 20, 1987, it became a state and borders with states of Assam and Nagaland to the south.

It’s international borders with Bhutan, Myanmar, and China, and Itanagar is the capital. It’s the most important among the Seven Sister States of Northeast India by area.

Mizoram

It is one of the seven sister states of north-eastern India. Aizawl is its seat of state also as the capital city.

Name of this state springs from Mizo and Ram’ which suggests land within the Mizo language. Thus, Mizoram means “land of the Mizos.”

It’s the southernmost landlocked state among the northeast region of India. The state borders with Tripura, Manipur, and Assam.

It also shares a 722-kilometer border with Bangladesh and Myanmar. It was established on February 20, 1987.

‘Mizoram has huge potential for adventure & eco-tourism’

Mizoramis a beautiful state with a huge potential for adventure and eco-tourism, saidUnionminister for tourism GKishan Reddy. He was speaking at the inauguration of the 10th International Tourism Mart (ITM) for the northeast at R Dengthuama Hall in Aizawl.

Reddy and CM Zoramthanga jointly laid the foundation for four projects, namely the Aizawl Convention Centre at Chite,PRASHAD, two bamboo link roads under PM DevINE – Tuirial Airfield to North Chaltlang and Lengpui to Saiphal. The Union minister also released a coffee table book on Mizoram tourism on the occasion. Reddy said the ITM aims to facilitate interaction between government agencies and stakeholders.
He drew the attention to the assumption of presidency by India, saying it would be a big boost in opening the scope of Investment in hospitality as well as adventure, cruise and wellness tourism.

TheShiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee(SGPC) has taken strict note after a place of worship linked toGuru Nanak Dev in Mechukha,Arunachal Pradesh, was allegedly converted into aBuddhist shrine.

Notably, on April 8, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu posted on his Facebook page “Guru Padmasambhava, a symbol of peace, spiritual perfection, knowledge & wisdom. Blessed to have visited Neh-Pema Shelpu Drupkhang near Mechukha, a Buddhist pilgrimage site where Guru Padmasambhava meditated. Offered prayers and sought blessings for all.”

Stating that converting a religious place into another community’s religious place was a violation of Section 25(Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion) of the Indian Constitution, Dhami sought immediate intervention of the President of India, Prime Minister, Home Minister and the National Minority Commission.

Meghalaya Living Root Bridges

A living root bridge is suspension bridge across small streams. They are built using living plant roots. These root bridges are common in Meghalaya. They are hand made. They are built using rubber of fig trees. They are built by the local Jaintia and Khasi people. Recently, the India has sought UNESCO World Heritage Tag for these bridges.

The bridges are locally calledjingjieng jri.These bridges are 50 metres to 1150 metres above the sea level. Their maximum length is around 50 metres. Their width is around 1.5 metres. They are strong to stand for 500 years! The bridges are healthy as long as the trees from which the bridges are made are healthy.

Root Bridges in other regions

Root bridges are also built by the Nagaland people. Also, the root bridges are built by Baduy people of Java.
