A unique 11-digit number has been attributed to all land parcels in the urban and rural areas of the state with effect from September 19, and data is now being shared with different government departments to prevent fraudulent land transactions.

Commonly called ‘Aadhaarfor land’, the state has readied theUnique Land Parcel Identification Number(ULPIN) for some 3crore documents – 2.62crore 7×12 extracts, and 70lakh property cards in the state.

Along with ULPIN, there are unique numbers for all 44,505 revenue villages in the state.

Several mango orchard owners from rural Thane recently approached the state Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture department to get the geographical indicator (GI) tag for Thane mangoes along the lines of theRatnagirihaapus, said officials from the agriculture department. The officials said that GI tagging will ensure quality assurance to customers and give them priority to export to Europe and the US, thus maximising profits for cultivators.

This is the first time Thane mango farmers have evinced interest in getting their product geo-tagged.Konkan Alphonsois in high demand due to its flavour and aroma and has secured GI tag for last few years. Thane district, also part of Konkan region, was left behind and so we thought of giving it a push as the produce here is exactly the same as in the coastal belt,

In all, 118 cultivators recently approached the district agriculture department. Once registered, all farm produce will carry a unique code that will give details of the fruit, said officials. The farmers said they were reeling under losses due to the pandemic and drop in sales due to influx of the mango variants from Karnataka and Gujarat.

The state hopes it will result in 2,600MBBS graduatesbeing added to the state each year in 10 years. In post-graduate medical degrees, the state hopes to add 1,000 seats within three years.

The scheme will be supported by International Finance Corporation and state industries department will offer support through the package scheme of incentives. Projects will be cleared by a high-powered committee led by the chief secretary. The state will use the model concession agreement of for such projects.

The cabinet also approved setting up of Rajiv Gandhi Invention City in Pimpri-Chinchwad to commemorate the leaders 75th birth anniversary.

The Irrigation department has decided to approach the 23 gram panchayats along theKhadakwasladam to intensify vigil in their areas to restrict people from entering water risking their lives.

The department also wants the panchayats to install caution boards on roads or paths leading to the dam water. The advisory is being issued following the recent incident of drowning of two girls in the Khadakwasla backwaters.

The Khadakwasla dam near the city has become a picnic spot. Footfall along the dam goes up significantly on weekends and on holidays. The irrigation department has installed caution boards at various locations, but officials claimed that people hardly followed the instructions.

Export of Services from Mihan-SEZ, which mainly include Software and aircraft maintenance, has gone up by 22%. The exports of physical products by the manufacturing units on the other hand has seen a feeble Growth of 3%. As a SEZ, the units here have to essentially export the products or services, generating net Foreign Exchange earnings (NFE).

The data released by the development commissioners office for financial year 2022-23, which just ended, saw services export rise to 1,30,602 crore as against 1,07,358 crore last fiscal. Exports of physical products was at 41,594 crore as against 40,340 crore in FY 2021-22. This comes to a growth of 22% and 3%, respectively. Sources say this indicates that there is a need to increase by companies in the zone.
Currently, the major players are Lupin Pharma, and Dassault Reliance Aviation Limited, say sources.

Eleven new units, including Reliance DEFENCE, Kalpana Saroj Global Aviation, and Jai Armaments, have been given nod to start operations.

In line with the ministry of commerce directives, letters of approval of inactive units have been cancelled. However, at the same time efforts have been taken to bring back certain potential units. These include Zim Laboratories, Taj Stats, and Soni Polymers.

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission(MERC) granted a transmission licence toAdaniElectricity Mumbai Infra Ltd for 25 years, enabling the firm to bring 1,000MW, or 33% more electricity, to Mumbai to cater to increasing demand.

Mumbai consumes 2,500-3,000MW during peak load, which goes up to 3,500MW in summer.Powerexpert Ashok Pendse said while the cost for consumers will rise by 6-7 paise per unit, with the demand set to increase in the coming months, it will help the city to have more power.

Since 1981, the city has been protected by islanding system, for which citizens pay Rs 450-500 crore each year through electricity bills. This is to ensure Mumbai gets constant supply even if there is power outage in MMR or elsewhere in the state. While Tata Power generates 1,337MW, Adani generates 500MW in Dahanu.

Chief minister Shinde on Monday said the upcomingbudgetof the state would make all stakeholders happy.

Addressing a gathering after performing the bhoomi pujan of theManmadwater project, Shinde said the state budget for 2023-24 to be tabled on March 9 would make Women, farmers and other stakeholders happy.

Citing examples, Shinde said 38,000 water supply schemes in rural Maharashtra were approved by his government. Similarly, around 22 Irrigation projects were given the go-ahead, and they will enable an additional 5 lakh hectare to be brought under cultivation.
