The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) recently announced the development of an Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (TCFS, Maharashtra).The ESZ serves as a buffer for protected areas, reducing construction pressures around wildlife sanctuary and national parks.

About Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary:

It is Maharashtra’s second marine sanctuary, after Malvan, and is located on the western bank of Thane Creek.

The Bombay Natural HISTORY Society has designated it as a “Important Bird Area.”

The TCFS is Home to 39 mangrove species, 167 bird species such as flamingos, 45 fish species, 59 butterfly species, 67 insect species, and mammals such as jackals, among others.

CAG report slams almost half of Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendras in Maharashtra

About 45% of the AapleSarkar Seva Kendrasin the state were not providing the notified Services under theMaharashtra Right to Public Services Act, 2015, stated the ‘s report on delivery of public services.
Of the 33,359 seva kendras (service centres) in the state, as many as 15,005 centres were not providing notified services, stated the report tabled in the assembly on Saturday. Their performance on the delivery of timely services front was far from satisfactory, stated the 181-page report. It highlighted the issues of pending applications and delays in delivery of services within the stipulated time despite the recovery of service charges from citizens.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India report was based on the delivery of services under theRTSAct from 2015 till 2021.

The State Government enacted the Maharashtra Right to Public Service (MRTPS) Act, 2015, for transparent, efficient and timely delivery of public services to citizens, and to bring Transparency and Accountability among public authorities. Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendras are online service-providing centres.

A part of the e-Governance initiative, citizens can avail various public services such as procuring nationality and domicile certificates, income certificates, caste certificates, birth/death certificates from various government departments and local bodies there. The government developed the Aaple Sarkar Service portal as a common platform for citizens to apply for services of various departments. Mahaonline Limited maintains it.

Natural Farming model should be adopted on large scale by farmers: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde

In a recent visit to ICAR-Shri Siddhagiri Krishi Vigyan Kendra inKaneri,Kolhapur,MaharashtraChief MinisterEknath Shindetook a keen interest in the natural farming live crop demonstration

During the visit, Shinde praised the work being done under natural farming, which focuses on -based farming, multi-Cropping of Rabi seasoned crops, exotic vegetables, oilseed crops, and various crops demonstrations. He stressed on the importance of adopting natural Farming practices and creating awareness among farmers about the benefits of such methods. He also emphasized the need to develop these models into large areas for further adoption by farmers.

Marathi be granted classical status: Maharashtra to Centre

Maharashtraculture ministerSubhash Desai metunion culture minister Kishan Reddyin Delhi to ask that Marathi be declared a .

He also requested that the announcement be made on February 27 which is the birthday of poet Kusumagraj and is celebrated as Marathi Bhasha Din. Reddy said both Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are in favour of granting Marathi the status of a classical language.

If granted classical status the Centre will have to provide Rs 500 crore annually for study, research, and promotion of the language.

The department has also ensured thousands of postcards with the demand are sent to President Ram Nath Kovind. At present Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Odiya have been granted classical status.

Budget for Kolhapur to Vaibhavwadi rail to be 4Kcr

Former project director of Konkan railways and chief engineer Deepak Diwate presented the proposed plan for the 107-km long Kolhapur-Vaibhavwadi rail route in the open forum discussion organised by the Association of Architect and Engineers,Kolhapur.

As per the survey of the Karad-Chiplun and Kolhapur-Vaibhavwadi routes, it is reported that the Karad-Chiplun route is not feasible, but Kolhapur-Vaibhavwadi is feasible. The Maharashtra government should take an active part in this extension line of the Konkan RAILWAY, it was said.

This project was approved almost ten years ago, but no work has been done on it yet. If the railway line is made, this 107-km railway line will pass throughVaibhavwadi Umbarde, Upale,Gagan Bawdaetc.

Shaniwar & Sadashiv peths use maximum groundwater: Study

Pune has permanently lost at least three million cubic metre or three billion litre of groundwater storage capacity due to construction of buildings and their foundations over the upper portions of shallow and weathered basalt aquifers, revealed a recent report on aquifers by the Advanced Centre for Resources“>Water Resources Development and Management.

The findings revealed that nearly half of the recharge area (46%) is covered by housing societies, like apartment blocks that are typically multi-storied and often with more than one building.”

If collected, three million cubic metre, or one TMC, of groundwater could fill up nearly half of the Khadakwasla dam that has the capacity to store 1.97 TMC of water.

Aquifers are natural underground layers of rock, sand, or gravel that contain water and can supply wells and springs with water. They act as storage units for groundwater.

Maharashtra issues maximum BH-series number plates

Maharashtrahas recorded maximum registrations — around 34% — of the total BH (Bharat)-series number plates registered around the country, latest statistics showed.

Said state transport commissionerAvinash Dhakne, This special number plate is beneficial for vehicle owners who have to move from one state to another which includes government as well as private jobs. It enables vehicle owners to avoid various registration issues faced earlier due to the inter-state shifting. In fact, the BH-series number plate registrations crossed the 1,000 mark in the state this week.

While Maharashtra issued 1,017 BH-number plates since it launched in October end last year,Odishaissued 444, Delhi 382, Rajasthan 326 and Uttar Pradesh 229. The total number of number plates issued in the country were 2,960, the statistics showed.

Until now, according to the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a vehicle registered in a state when kept in another state for a period of more than 12 months is subject to the assignment of new registration. The registration process which was tedious in nature, has now been done away with after the launch of BH-series.

Promote Marathi dialects, says NCP chief Sharad Pawar

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said the local Marathi dialects should be promoted and encouraged across the globe.

“The dialects are connected with Marathi only. The idea of the World Marathi Conference (Jagtik Marathi Sammelan) was to create more awareness and spread the Marathi language. I have been a part of various such conferences and these are the need of the hour,” he said while speaking at the 18th World Marathi Conference (Jagtik Marathi Sammelan) at Dr DY Patil University in Pimpri.

Grape production likely to drop by 20% in Nashik

Thegrape productionin the district is likely to reduce by 20% to 9.5 lakh tonne due to the unseasonal rain, which has affected the ready-to-harvest vineyards and those which were in the flowering stages.

According toMaharashtraRajya Draksha Bagayatdar Sangh (MRDBS), an association of grape growers, the grape production ofNashikdistrict was 12 lakh tonne during the last grape season and around 1.29 lakh tonnes were exported to various European and non-European countries.
But the recent unseasonal rain has badly hit some of the vineyards in the district and the grape production is expected to reduce by 20%. The grape plantation in the district is estimated to be on around 1.50 lakh acre.

Of the 1.50 lakh acre, the plantation under wine grape varieties is 6,000 acre, while the remaining all plantations are under table grape varieties.
