Bill to set up university in Panipat passed

The Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which was tabled on the first day of the ongoing winter session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, was passed today.

Study: Ranges most vulnerable in NCR, losses to rise to 22% by 2059 at current rate of damage

Nearly 8% of the Aravali hills have disappeared between 1975 and 2019, says a study of the ranges across four states. Researchers from the Central University ofRajasthan(CURaj) studied satellite images and land-use maps between 1975 and 2019 to come up with estimates. Their paper titled Assessment of Land-Use Dynamics of the Aravalli Range was published in the journal Science Earth Informatics this January.

Data analysed by researchers showed that 5772.7 sqkm (7.6%) of the Aravali ranges was flattened in the 44-year period they studied. Of this, nearly 5% (3,676 sqkm) of the hills was converted into barren land and another 776.8 sqkm (around 1%) into settlements. The projected loss by 2059 of total Aravali area is 16,360 sqkm, according to the report.

To provide better medical facilities to the economically weak section of Haryana, the is implementing various schemes to provide them access to super-speciality hospitals by providing financial aid to the patients through Chief Ministers Relief Fund.

Taking another step, the Haryana Government has amended the Chief Ministers Relief Fund scheme to ensure that poor people can get immediate treatment benefits. Besides the treatment of three diseases, financial assistance is being provided to the patients for the treatment of 25 chronic diseases under this scheme.

Applicants seeking financial assistance can avail the facility through the SARAL portal of the government. The amount of financial assistance from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund will be directly transferred to the bank account of the applicant or beneficiary. He said for financial assistance on medical grounds from the CM Relief Fund, the applicants can apply on the SARAL Portal through her/his Parivar Pehchan Patra ID by uploading relevant documents like medical bills, OPD bills etc.

Groundwater in many parts of Haryanas 13 districts unfit for drinking: CGWB report

The groundwater in many parts of as many as 13 districts in Haryana has been found unfit for drinking.

The groundwater occurring in the southern, western and central parts comprising of Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, Jhajjar, Bhiwani, Mewat, Mahendragarh, Rewari and Faridabad districts is mostly saline and not suitable for drinking purposes. Apart from this, districts namely Gurugram, Palwal, Rohtak recorded low potable rating, as chemical parameters were found to be higher than permissible limits in 50 percent samples in these districts, according to the latest report of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).The groundwater samples in parts of these districts were found to have high fluoride or nitrate or combination of all, besides high salinity, stated the 2020-21 report of CGWB for Haryana.

In previous 2019-20 CGWB report, the groundwater samples in parts of 11 districts in Haryana were found unpotable.

In many rural and semi-urban areas of Haryana, groundwater is a major resource for drinking and Irrigation especially in areas where surface water is inadequate. Salinity, chloride, fluoride and nitrate are key parameters that are considered for evaluating the suitability of groundwater for drinking purposes.

Sodium was the dominant cation in the majority of groundwater except for the districts namely Ambala, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panchkula and Yamunanagar. Its concentration varied widely from 1 mg/L at Khot kalan in district Hisar to 2657 mg/L at Kot in district Palwal. Sodium concentration was found to be less than 100 mg/L in less than half of well waters, the report stated.

The CGWB report concluded that almost all groundwater is suitable for irrigation on well-drained soils for growing salt tolerant crops like wheat, mustard, rice, barley and maize etc. However, at a few places where the EC of groundwater goes beyond 5000 S/cm, such waters are not suitable for customary irrigation. It also recommended that areas identified with unsuitable or marginally suitable water quality should be monitored on micro level.

Implement digital tools: Education department to 100 schools

Over 100 senior secondary schools inMahendergarhon Friday were directed to prepare a concrete plan to improve the standard of Education and implement digital tools and innovative pedagogy as per the New Education Policy and guidelines ofNipun Haryanamission.

The state education department launched a state-wide marathon monitoring and inspection drive of senior secondary schools under the Shiksha Diksha academic supervision plan. A team of 100 officers reviewed theFLNprogramme implementation, mid-day meal status and textbook distribution and utilisation of funds for infrastructural facelift works.

n a bid to resolve long pending issues in the mining sector in the State, Haryana Government has introduced a one time settlement scheme pertaining to matters including dues related to obtaining environmental clearance and consent to operate, dues for suspension period, non-execution of agreement, refusal of environmental clearance among other issues.

The scheme was approved by the Haryana Cabinet last week for the resolution of long pending issues in the mining sector, which could be settled amicably under the policy of Vivado ka Samadhan of the state.

According to the notification, the cut off date for ascertaining disputes for operation of scheme shall be March 31, 2021 and the scheme shall be operational from three months from November 3, 2021 onwards.

The one time relief scheme has been launched to ensure smooth mining without or bare minimum litigation or disputes in the mining sector in Haryana.

Under the OTS scheme, dues for the period where after grant of environmental clearances, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board refused the CTE/CTO (Consent to operate) or same was stayed, the dues for such period will be waived off as one time relief.

Under the scheme, where the concession holders have applied for environmental clearance but the competent authority has refused to grant environmental clearance, the mineral concessions would be treated as cancelled by forfeiture of the amount of initial bid security (10 percent of the bid amount) deposited at the time of auction and cases will be closed with no other penal action.
