Organic farming will change Indias destiny: Governor

Urging farmers to adopt on a larger scale, governor Acharya Devvrat on Tuesday said that this will change the countrys destiny. Speaking to farmers at Anand Agricultural University, the governor said not only will this reduce the dependence on chemicals Fertilizers, it will give farmers higher returns for their crops.

The governor, who has been leading a sustained campaign to promote organic farming, said possession of one cow can help farmers take up natural farming on 30 acres of land and farmers who have 30 cows can take up organic farming on one acre.

FinMin offers backing to 2 major river linking projects

The Centre has shown its preparedness to get the ball roling on two key river linking projects which will bring water to Mumbai and parts of northMaharashtra but the two beneficiary states must arrive at a consensus.

Two river linking projects between Maharashtra andGujaratare among these five. The Damanganga-Pinjal project and the Par-Tapi-Narmada project have been on the drawing board for a while, but have seen little progress. The Damanganga project looks to meet Mumbai citys drinking water needs till 2060 and the Par-Tapi-Narmada project has potential for north Maharashtra.

The Damanganga-Pinjal project looks to harness water that runs off Maharashtra into the Arabian Sea, and divert the same to Mumbai city for drinking purposes. All this water is from Maharashtra. Gujarat has no role, yet the draft agreement says water from here will be given to Gujarat, said Jadhav.

The Par-Tapi-Narmada project entirely benefits Gujarat, and Maharashtra has demanded compensation of 15 TMC (thousand meter cube) run-off water from Maharashtra into theTapibasin in Dhule.

The city has witnessed nearly 300% increase in cyber crime cases compared to the previous year till July in the pandemic period.

Data shows that citizens have lost Rs three crore to cyber frauds till July this year. Of the total siphoned off online, around Rs 1.34 crore was frozen in bank accounts or returned to victims after cops took action.

Police have now launched a month-long awareness campaign Cyber Sanjivani to create awareness about such frauds.

Gujarat bags first rank in e-procurement through women entrepreneurs

The Department for Promotion of and Internal Trade (DPIIT) released the ranking of all the states of the country in various categories for the implementation of the GeM portal. According to rankings released, Gujarat has bagged the first position in the category of Procurement Through Women Entrepreneurs.

The Kreta-Vikreta Gaurav Samman Samaroh 2023 was organized by the Government e-Market Place of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India on June 26 at New Delhi to award the top performers of GeM India. Gujarat bagged one award in Platinum Category and 3 Awards each in the Gold and Silver Category at the event.

Awards were given to the top three states in the respective categories among all the states and union territories of India. The award ceremony was attended by representatives of the top-performing states. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce & Industry, and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India and Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Government of India, were the Chief Guests at the event.

Gujarat was ranked second in the Highest Total Order Value Category worth Rs 7,963.8 crores, and the Highest Service Procurement Category worth Rs 2,151.3 crores, as well as the Highest Procurement through MSE vendors with Rs 3,195.4 crores.

The state stood third in the category of the total number of orders with 2,99,718 orders, procurement through Start-Ups worth Rs 218 crores, and best engagement with 9,553 vendors (highest number of transacting buyers).

Rs 1.5 lakh/kg: Gujarat scientists grow one of costliest mushrooms

Scientists at Kutch-basedGujaratInstitute of Desert ECOLOGY (GUIDE) have successfully cultivated cordyceps militaris a mushroom species that traditionally found its use in Chinese and Tibetan herbal medicines. The scientists grew themushroomsin 35 jars in a controlled Environment in a laboratory within 90 days giving 350 grams yield. The mushroom is valued at Rs1.50 lakh a kg.

The institute which has found it useful in treating even breast cancer has decided to provide training to entrepreneurs at a very nominal fee as a livelihood option to cultivate mushrooms at laboratory scale.

Unesco, Microsoft to join hands with GoG

Ahead of the two-day International Conference of Academic Institutions (ICAI) on January 5 and 6, a precursor to VibrantGujaratGlobal Summit (VGGS), the state Education department confirmed 2,574 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) out of which majority have been signed. Some will be signed on Monday, whereas 30-odd high-profile collaborations will take place on January 5, said sources.

Out of total MoUs, 686 are directly carried out by the government departments, whereas the rest are carried out by the universities and institutes.

Some of the topics that would be covered by the experts include multidisciplinary education, National Education Policy (NEP), SDGs in education, Indian Knowledge System, impact of Covid-19 on education, Skill development for employability and .
